Stafford, apparently angry with losing the fight, landed a pretty solid tea bag after hartnell fell

Posted by SabresFanatic on January 20, 2013 at 04:00 PM

Dirty hit by Hartnell. Good for Staff stepping up. Stafford took a good shot. Hartnell lucky John Scott wasn't on the ice.

Posted by krf on January 20, 2013 at 02:27 PM

Hartnell with the win, but props to Stafford for taking him on.

Posted by tslicer on January 20, 2013 at 10:11 PM

Typical Hartnell fight. Only go if its a non-fighter or someone smaller, Throws a couple shots and falls down.

Hartnell eaisly but seeing Stafford stick up for a teammate is a plesant suprise

Posted by dzemens on January 20, 2013 at 02:28 PM

Hartnell lands the punches but loses his balance at the end, Stafford gets the take down but nothing of substance. Gotta give this one to Hartnell, with no second thoughts.

Posted by FHgrad99 on January 20, 2013 at 11:58 PM

I'll give Stafford credit for taking on Hartnell here but he took a few early but tried to come back but the takedown at the end wasn't enough to overcome Hartnell's early edge.

Posted by slavv on January 21, 2013 at 09:33 PM

Hartnell should have been called for boarding. He had the pper hand in the fight until he was somewhat off balance and got helped to the ice with a Stafford punch....

Posted by scorp1on on January 21, 2013 at 07:19 AM

Not sure why they talked Hartnell up quite that much. They are about equal in fighting prowess if not equally sized. Hartnell takes the fight but it certainly wasn't dominance and the end I would have wagered on - Hartnell losing his balance - occurred like clockwork.

Welcome Back Sabrehatred jr...You must explain the Jr. ? Please tell me you did not spread your dysfunctual viral seed... Pleased to meet you, Hope you guess my name...Hartnell with a good right, gets the slight edge....Gonna be a fun year with sabrehatred back, Yeah, Yeah Yeah. !!!

Posted by delneggs on January 20, 2013 at 03:58 PM

Stafford stepped up for his teammate but he's not a fighter. Hartnell wins fairly easy but then again, he should.

Posted by bruins rule on January 21, 2013 at 05:55 PM

hartnell gets the win

Posted by mudman55 on January 21, 2013 at 03:41 PM

I think Lindy Ruff had a chat with this team in the last week about NOT being pansies. Unfortunately, the side effect is that Stafford now thinks he is in Rochester, Minnesota selling medical equipment. The Fro with the easy win.

Posted by rturn2 on January 24, 2013 at 04:06 AM

Typical Hartnell--land a couple and fall down. Won't stand toe to toe.

Posted by UBMarine on January 20, 2013 at 02:33 PM

Good to see Stafford step up, but he got beat.

Posted by DrJekyll540 on January 21, 2013 at 12:26 AM

Who ever thinks Hartnell went after Stafford is an idiot

Posted by Sabrecat on January 24, 2013 at 06:28 AM

Hartnell beats Stafford but this fight was a win for Buffalo. He stood in, took the one punch, dealt with the inevitable Hartnell flop and landed on top of him. Sabres more pumped than Flyers by this one. No monumental change in the game as both will later do what they do: Stafford will tally an assist and Hartnell will interfere with Miller...again.

Hartnell wins

Posted by rangerfan410 on January 21, 2013 at 07:06 PM

Why does Hartnell jump the ice whenever he fights? Is it a question of balance or testosterone? I think we know the answer.

Posted by staceyb on January 21, 2013 at 07:50 AM

Drew Stafford in a fight? Hartnell's right should have launched his noggin into the first row of seats but he hung in there. Gotta say I'm anxious to see the first Sabres-Bruins game at Boston Garden. The Sabres look tough this year with Ott, Kaleta, Foligno and company but now they have John Scott as a nuclear deterrent.

Posted by nustard on January 20, 2013 at 04:44 PM

Stafford gets props for stepping up, and not getting annihilated.

Posted by mmadced on January 21, 2013 at 11:08 AM

the bioche hartnell keeps his record of never fighting someone that actually fights occasionally. what a worm

Posted by fentonhardy on January 21, 2013 at 12:31 PM

Easy win for Hartnell. Stafford gets in trouble and pulls him down to avoid getting drilled.

Posted by Badgerface on January 20, 2013 at 02:31 PM

Good to see team mates sticking up for each other

Posted by bammer24 on January 21, 2013 at 12:39 AM

Hartnell with the win but as always could have picked a better dance partner.Props to Stafford for giving it a go when someone else on that team should have buried Hartnell earlier.Use the tough guys.......THAT IS WHY YOU GOT THEM !!!!!

Posted by Mounty in NC on January 24, 2013 at 10:41 AM

Is there even a reason to talk about this fight. You have this goon in Hartnell fighting someone that hasn't been in a fight in over 3 years. Stafford goes up to Hartnell in defense of several of his players that Hartnell just cross-checked in the back. Hartnell is one of the dirtiest players in the league!!!

Posted by jUStPunkin on January 21, 2013 at 10:08 AM

Stafford didn't win - true. But, for a guy that has't dropped gloves in 3 years, on a team that is known as being soft and who is trying to change that image, this fight was huge. Hartnell cheap shotted Pommers (I think) earlier in the game, and then he took a shot at Ennis (again, I think), and Stafford had enough. Good for him for stepping up. He might not be able to fight; he certainly can't go toe to toe with Hartnell, but that fact that he did was HUGE.

Posted by BrianBro53 on January 20, 2013 at 07:16 PM

Definitely a win for Hartnell. Gotta appreciate and respect a team leader like Stafford for stepping up to make Hartnell answer for two questionable hits, but with all of the size and tough guys buffalo has this year you gotta wonder why somebody else didn't take this fight

Posted by Jordybats99 on February 29, 2016 at 12:10 PM

Ok fight. Edge Scott Hartnell.

Posted by Chucky73 on January 20, 2013 at 03:11 PM

As soon as Hartnell takes a few.....he somehow falls down. LOL

Posted by drewskinny32 on January 20, 2013 at 10:57 PM

Big props going to Stafford...this was his first fight in 3 years and he took on a bigger much more expierenced guy in Hartnell...Win Hartnell but huge fight showing Buffalo will no longer be pushed around

Posted by flyerphanatic21 on January 22, 2013 at 10:11 AM

Although he went down, Hartnell landed more punches and definitely won the fight. But props to Stafford (a non-fighter) for taking on Hartnell (a fighter) in defense of his teammate.

Posted by Bulliesrevival on January 20, 2013 at 02:33 PM

Hartnell hands down... Stafford didn't land anything......

Posted by cunjiva on January 21, 2013 at 12:11 AM

Did Stafford land any punches? Hartnell just lost his balance at the end.

Posted by TheBigB246 on January 21, 2013 at 08:17 PM

Hartnell with the only solid punches of the bout.

Posted by Hawkinsc214284 on January 23, 2013 at 02:20 PM

Stafford learned that Enforcers don't flinch. Have to give'em credit for taking on Hartnell & defending his teammate

Posted by Boston Garden on January 20, 2013 at 03:53 PM

Typical Hartnell....

Posted by picsman04 on January 21, 2013 at 09:10 PM

Way to stand up for your linemate Stafford.

Posted by ptm14 on January 20, 2013 at 03:59 PM

Stafford gets my vote cause he took him down, and was the underdog... Hartnell had the clear upper-hand. Stafford Took it.

Posted by glovedropper08 on January 21, 2013 at 10:59 PM

I thought Stafford did pretty good.. and honestly i think he deserves the win. Hartnell mind was thinking "yep finally landed some good shots, better go down before I get beat down by a non-fighter" Stafford Finished well. So he gets my vote.

Posted by jp_5657 on January 20, 2013 at 05:08 PM

Hartnell started on top but Stafford hung in there and tackled Hartnell.

Posted by CrookedToupe on January 20, 2013 at 03:38 PM

Started out pretty even, then Hartnell kicked it up a notch and let loose. Stafford came back with 1 good hit and a takedown. Hartnell was clearly the better fighter of the two, but Stafford grabs the win here with his takedown.

Posted by kkdowning on January 21, 2013 at 11:02 AM

Hartnell with the win -- surprised there was no boarding call on the hit

Posted by gmr133 on January 25, 2013 at 08:27 PM

Is there a bigger puss in the NHL than Hartnell? Uh, no. Cheap hit from behind and then find some guy smaller than you who never fights to take on. And get rag-dolled in the end. Pathetic.

Posted by Binx on January 20, 2013 at 07:14 PM

surprising to see stafford drop the gloves. Hartnell lands a good one. Other than that pretty weak showing all around.

Posted by DARCY T on January 21, 2013 at 05:13 PM

draw...and 4

Posted by mobilope on January 21, 2013 at 11:46 AM

No matter the ooutcome it ends the same way everything does with Hartnell, Hartnell down

Posted by Jack o on January 20, 2013 at 05:32 PM

Each landed one kudos to Stafford for sticking up for teammates. Hartnell ran two guys from behind he never would have had the guts to drop them vs Scott.

Posted by marballa on February 01, 2013 at 12:57 AM

Staff-infection tries to steal Hartnell's soul, but quickly realizes he doesn't have one. Hartnell goes down, wins the fight and then takes a puck to the foot.

Peter Laviolette likes gum.

Posted by shawn46 on January 20, 2013 at 09:13 PM

It"s always a shame when I see the name Hartnell on the fight log and then not see him get his richly deserved punch out.... I await him to not spin out or fall when the going gets tough and someone please knock the red off his puss....

Posted by nickzourdos on January 20, 2013 at 02:25 PM

Hartnell lands a few great shots, Stafford got the takedown but not much else.

Posted by briaro2050 on January 27, 2013 at 12:35 AM

Hey Stu you big dummy, those feints fooled no one. How did those two right hands taste..hahahahaha

Posted by habssuck on January 20, 2013 at 03:56 PM

Hartnell is a Broad; not a Broad Street Bully; just a gutless piece of Philly $hit

Posted by legend22 on January 21, 2013 at 11:02 AM

Hartnell throws 10 punches and lands one... Stafford takes him down.....Boring Draw
