I'll give Stafford credit for taking on Hartnell here but he took a few early but tried to come back but the takedown at the end wasn't enough to overcome Hartnell's early edge.

Hartnell should have been called for boarding. He had the pper hand in the fight until he was somewhat off balance and got helped to the ice with a Stafford punch....

Not sure why they talked Hartnell up quite that much. They are about equal in fighting prowess if not equally sized. Hartnell takes the fight but it certainly wasn't dominance and the end I would have wagered on - Hartnell losing his balance - occurred like clockwork.

Hartnell beats Stafford but this fight was a win for Buffalo. He stood in, took the one punch, dealt with the inevitable Hartnell flop and landed on top of him. Sabres more pumped than Flyers by this one. No monumental change in the game as both will later do what they do: Stafford will tally an assist and Hartnell will interfere with Miller...again.

Drew Stafford in a fight? Hartnell's right should have launched his noggin into the first row of seats but he hung in there. Gotta say I'm anxious to see the first Sabres-Bruins game at Boston Garden. The Sabres look tough this year with Ott, Kaleta, Foligno and company but now they have John Scott as a nuclear deterrent.

Is there even a reason to talk about this fight. You have this goon in Hartnell fighting someone that hasn't been in a fight in over 3 years. Stafford goes up to Hartnell in defense of several of his players that Hartnell just cross-checked in the back. Hartnell is one of the dirtiest players in the league!!!

Stafford didn't win - true. But, for a guy that has't dropped gloves in 3 years, on a team that is known as being soft and who is trying to change that image, this fight was huge. Hartnell cheap shotted Pommers (I think) earlier in the game, and then he took a shot at Ennis (again, I think), and Stafford had enough. Good for him for stepping up. He might not be able to fight; he certainly can't go toe to toe with Hartnell, but that fact that he did was HUGE.

Definitely a win for Hartnell. Gotta appreciate and respect a team leader like Stafford for stepping up to make Hartnell answer for two questionable hits, but with all of the size and tough guys buffalo has this year you gotta wonder why somebody else didn't take this fight
