Im not surprised Ruutu got under their skin, just can't believe everybody from Chicago stood around watching and didnt try to help him, some team unity eh

Posted by snowave on March 17, 2007 at 11:08 AM

Obviously most of you didn't watch this whole game.. McD, was getting run a couple times in this game, as well as the night before against LA.. just for being a finesse player that they know can't fight... He's fed up with it, and so was Kunitz/Ducks.... Hats off to a class act by Kunitz for stepping up.for his teammate. If you don't want to get your arse kicked, don't throw a hard upper body check at mid ice at a skilled player in a 5-1 beating (or whatever the score was at that point.). The Ducks were even putting out 3rd liners on the power play at this point as to show some respect for CHi, and what does it get in return? Weak... but what do you expect from a classless CHi team.

I don't think Ruutu turtled, I think he just went down from being unbalanced and under barrage. I guess Kunitz could have let him up to fight, but that's not what this was all about. I don't think the Ducks are making anymore exceptions when you touch #19 or #8 or the PPG line (Penner, Perry, Getzlaf). Thank you Mr. Burke for most exciting team in hockey:)

This shouldn't even be considered a fight. Ruutu took out MacDonald with a hit and Kunitz decides he's a sheriff with a visor. It's laughable. (sarcasm) I like how Carlyle was eager to throw Parros out there when the game was already over with. Yeah, that's class (/sarcasm)!

Posted by Brando on March 18, 2007 at 05:51 PM

LAME. Ruutu didn't even get a chance to throw hands.

Posted by Blackhawk16 on March 17, 2007 at 12:06 PM

Guy with a shield jumps you and starts throwin'...Cheap!

Posted by wallysy1 on March 17, 2007 at 09:19 AM

First--these announcers suck. second-kunitz 'wins' the fight-but not a fair fight as he just jumped the guy. so in the end--it was all bad.

Posted by Bamsenaattori on March 18, 2007 at 02:04 PM

Kunitz was pathetic and cheap. He really should get some anger management and then learn fight

Posted by mcdonald49 on March 17, 2007 at 09:51 AM

Ruutu thought he was tough until he got scared crapless by Kunitz

Posted by tappaja on March 17, 2007 at 10:04 AM

What a pussy Kunitz is jump and start fight with man who is down in his knee Fucking couvaurt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by boycew39 on March 17, 2007 at 10:47 AM

I'm not surprised Ruutuu turtled, he may have taken out Andy Mac but regardless you don't hit a guy when he's down. Kunitz was way out of line.

Posted by wylde_buzz on March 17, 2007 at 11:27 AM

it was a cheap shot by Kuntz but Ruutu deserved a smack or two for the high stick on McDonald. Anybody comparing this to the Bertuzzi incident must be Hawks fan.

Posted by Rebel Banker on March 17, 2007 at 08:05 AM

kunitz is a piece of crap

Posted by jealeman on March 18, 2007 at 04:48 AM

First...I think Anyone named Ruutu is a cheap shot artist (see other Fin jerk in the East). Still, he got ambushed. If you're gonna fight, then drop them clean. Don't jump him. I'm not sure who would have won, but Ruutu didn't stand a chance. BTW, someone else said it....Blackhawks showed NO unity there. Maybe they don't like Jarko...I mean Tuomo either.

Posted by DUSTER76 on March 17, 2007 at 11:01 AM

More guys should handle Ruutu this way. Drop the Instigator!

Posted by Boogeyman2383 on November 20, 2008 at 08:22 PM

kunitz is such a little girl he startes throwing punches whenn ruutu had his gloves on The ducks are cheap period

Posted by dukeofearle on March 17, 2007 at 07:55 AM

Kunitz jumps Ruutu and Ruutu turtles.

Posted by Juha82 on February 18, 2010 at 02:53 AM

Kunitz with DECISIVE win, Ruutu turtled.

Posted by billy jack on January 21, 2011 at 04:12 AM

ruttu does better with his high sticks then his fists, lesson learned?maybe.

Posted by Nelstorm on November 09, 2010 at 11:55 PM

I'm so sick of people who say things like, "Person A was cheap and jumped person B, so I'm voting that Person B won!" Grow the f*** up you little b****es, this is hockey, it's rough and people like to pound each others faces in. Sometimes we don't even let them get the gloves off. Also, Kunitz kicked the s*** out of that cheap little jacka**.

Posted by cantstoptherock on March 28, 2007 at 01:09 PM

Visor or not, Ruutu is a turtle....a cheap shot artist punk turtle. Why turtle from Kunitz? Was he afraid of a talent player with 1 prior career fight?

Posted by smichaels10 on April 08, 2007 at 02:41 PM

I hate when people turtle. You take runs at people, you have to back it up. Don't turtle you pussy.

Posted by archtalon on March 17, 2007 at 12:06 PM

Another example of why the instigator penalty should be scrapped or reduced. It would have been embarassing if nobody on the Ducks slugged Ruutuu after the high stick.

Posted by vipers-pit on March 18, 2007 at 01:25 AM

Kunitz NEVER dropped his gloves. He was attacked.

Posted by TheTop on March 19, 2007 at 07:18 AM

Kunitz is the man

Posted by craig_9806 on March 17, 2007 at 09:00 AM

What a cheap shot by Kunitz. He should change his name from Kunt to pussy.

Posted by fightguru on March 17, 2007 at 08:22 AM

ruutu was not waisting time with kunitz

Posted by Divad76 on March 18, 2007 at 12:01 AM

This is what happens when you take cheap shots on skill players. The Ducks were up I think 5-1 when this fight happened and were taking it easy on the Hawks. Ruutu is an idiot and deserved what he got.

Posted by patfeser on March 18, 2007 at 02:18 AM

If they square off RUUTU kills Kunitz no if ands or buts. Kunitz HAD to jump him for his own safety!!!!

Posted by DuckDad on March 17, 2007 at 11:46 AM

Go, Kuny!!! Chris isn't a fighter, per se, but what the Chi Homers call "throwing the body around" was Ruutu doing a backhand wrister off AndyMac's face. The zebra's were going to call it, but Kuny made the right choice, 'cause the intent to injure only got a minor. The misconduct was on the extreme edge of reasonable, considering the Matcher that they were going to let slide by with 2 minutes. You'd think after Simon..... but I guess Ruutu didn't have enough time to shift his stick properly, and just destroyed the visor.

Posted by cwebbyrun on March 21, 2007 at 09:07 AM

Kunitz did what was right, Ruutu has to learn that there is consequences to doing stupid things. In the NHL you get your A$$ beat for doing stupid stuff, as it should be. I am pretty sure he is thanking his lucky stars that it was first liner Kunitz there instead of parros or moen or someone that wouldve beat him even more than Kunitz did.

Posted by WildWingfan on March 17, 2007 at 06:39 PM

he nearly knocked him out with those puches

Posted by HapaDuck on March 17, 2007 at 04:57 PM

LMAO! at all the Blackhawk fans talking smack. Just admit that you guys got it handed to you buy a tough team. Yeah I am a ducks fan, and you can call me a homer... Regardless, Ruutu was taking cheap shots and got called on it by Kunitz. So yeah... live with it

Posted by Ruben on March 17, 2007 at 08:26 PM

Ruutu got what he deserved!!!!!!!

Posted by brandoneberts on March 17, 2007 at 12:29 PM

Ruutu had it coming. Congratulations Kunitz.

Posted by mikebflorida on March 17, 2007 at 10:34 PM

Ruutu is a toilet bug. When is the NHL going to wake up and start suspending guys like Ruutu, Hollweg, Avery, et al for being the chickenshyt losers that they are? Those players are the one's with no respect given or earned and is why the NHL needs to ditch the instigator now and forever because guys like this Finnish piece of trash would stop doing stuff like that. Props to ANYONE who jumps Ruutu, Hollwegworm, or Avery or anyone like them.

Posted by terrmyster on March 18, 2007 at 07:38 AM

Sloppy stick, but the hit wasn't that bad. I agree the announcers are morons, but the check was fine, MacDonald's not a superstar that you can't hit! this is hockey ladies, kunitz deserves a suspension, he must be a bertuzzi fan.

Posted by trpaulson on March 17, 2007 at 11:54 AM

This wasn't even a fight. Ruutu just got a beating after cheap shotting another player.

Posted by TRumble24 on March 20, 2007 at 04:35 AM

This all started in the game prior to this one versus Columbus when Andy McDonald had a couple of runs taken at him, including a big non-call when he was boarded. Then earlier in this game McDonald was boarded by another Chigago player, and when he noticed there was no call he went after the guy, quickly followed by Selanne, no gloves dropped it was just a scrum. So then this happens AGAIN and this time Kunitz steps up for his teammate, comes at Ruutu from the front and lays into him just as he should, well worth the 5 minutes and game misconduct for Kunitz. Also great to see someone other then the typical "enforcers" out there sticking up for their teammates. If Ruutu keeps his stick down and throws a clean check then it's a completly different situation, but in this case more power to Kunitz.

Posted by tdawg on March 18, 2007 at 03:25 PM

Ruutu is a p*ssy - cheap shot rake across McDonald's visor with his stick - if McDonald didn't have a visor it would have been a 5 minute major. Ducks started to take it easy on them - after being up 5-0; Kunitz, not known as a brawler could have beaten the crap out of him, but he let up. Ruutu saw Kunitz coming and just turtled - got Chi back in the game due to the 5 minute major. I don't want to hear about cheapshots from chicken hawk fans - remember the Gary Suter/Paul Kariya incident - Ducks don't take that crap anymore....Ruutu was not jumped from behind or down on one knee - Kunitz came head on into him- Ruutu should have expected someone to come looking for him after that cheapshot - it's not like it was Shawn Thornton or George Parros-Kunitz is smaller than Ruutu-this was his first fighting major all season - no wonder Chicago heart

Posted by bronx1981 on March 17, 2007 at 10:31 AM

Who voted this a DRAW? Ruttu didnt throw a punch. He ducked and covered, as Kunitz was dropping bombs on his. SO you can only say that Kunitz won, due to the fact, he was the only one fighting. I wouldnt consider it a fight though. Ruttu was playing the claude lemeuix role, getting under peoples skin, and got beaten for it. Although Kunitz had his gloves dropped before Ruttu even saw him. Scumbag move.
