How do you give Gaz a win here? Not much landing at all and Westgarth's punches are landing on his god dam face shield! This is the biggest focking farce and telling people to "stop whining about it" is an even bigger farce. How can you except this bullsh1t? One guy with a face shield against a guy without. Would you be ok with that in a boxing match or an MMA match? Of course not! So why is it ok here? I don't give a flying fock if he HAS to wear one, he certainly doesn't HAVE to leave it on if he's going to be an enforcer and if that's all he's good for, he shouldn't even be in the league right now until it's a level playing field and everyone has a shield. Stop regurgitating the same BS about the "rules". It is an absurd situation created by dumbasses in suits and is unacceptable. DRAW

Westgarth's hand was covered in cuts from hitting Gazdics visor. Hard to award a win when one fighter has a distinct advantage, league forced or not. Draw. Linesmen broke it up

I am starting to side with King of Goons now, the visors are a joke despite me defending the rule with the rookies. You cannot call yourself a legitimate heavyweight until you get the visor off and show us what you can do and this fight was a perfect example, as Westgarth kept hitting visor and got nothing but bloodied knuckles for his efforts. Gazdic also gets his head down much of the time, so there is no target. McGratten beat him this year despite not having a visor on. After watching Peluso remove his, i have to say that i have changed my mind and there is no reason Gazdic shouldn't do the same. Take the F'in thing off Gazdic or you will never be proven to be a fighter. Don't respond about the new rule, i get it. But don't play tough guy with it on, be a man like Peluso.

I love the comments from the 400 pounder twinkle brigade that have never put on a pair of skates. Either Gazdic removes the helmet as will the other player or he doesn’t fight idiot. If both teams have equal minors do you see a huge impact in the game? The last part of Gazdic name says it all he’s a “chicken sh!t DIC”. Cherry and McLean called him out Saturday night, he’s a chicken.

Posted by King of Goons on March 24, 2014 at 02:58 PM

Gazdic's visor probably saves him a broken nose, as Westgarth comes over the top with a big right and connects with nothing but face shield. Hey Luke, ask Anthony Peluso to give you an extra copy of his instructional manual on how to loosen a chinstrap and remove a helmet, ...visor boy.

Posted by The Mad House on March 24, 2014 at 12:41 AM

Much like after he was punished by John Scott, Westgarth comes back and finds Gazdic for "revenge" I wish the Oilers would call up Big Mac They would have a modern day version of "The Bruise Brothers"

Posted by Great Murray on March 24, 2014 at 10:08 AM

Westgarth spends the whole fight avoiding getting ko'd again. He lost big but he lived! Gazdic could take his lid off. That would pressure the other guy to do the same. Gazdic is probably the 2nd best fighter in Hockey but he won't get that from me until he comes out of the shield.

Posted by riffraff on March 24, 2014 at 01:21 PM

Basically you have to respect westgarth more than gazdic. For obvious reasons.

Posted by 33Oliwa on March 24, 2014 at 12:40 PM

Westgarth eliminated all of Gazdic's offence with one stance, Gazdic may prove to be a one-note-pony with his fight style. 2014/15 will be the season to judge any current rookie as an enforcer.

Posted by johnsonc007 on March 24, 2014 at 05:16 PM

Most definitely a draw. Westgarth all defense and Gazdic couldn't connect. And my $0.02 on the shield thing…yes he is required to wear it. It sucks. But as the enforcer of the team with the responsibility to bang, and can't remove it, why not go with the Oakley, which is smaller, and wear it up like Kronwall? Rules don't say it needs to cover particular parts of the face, just that its on there.

Posted by canamrugby on March 24, 2014 at 09:15 PM

Westgarth needs to take a few pointers from McGrattan on how to remove helmets and visors, punching Gazdic's visor repeatedly is getting him nowhere. Gazdic is proving very tough when his opponents can only punch visor, a shame really because he probably is one tough dude without it.

Homers voting makes me laugh. This was a draw, through and through.

Nice draw here. Westgarth gets some retribution as well good for him.

Posted by Z.Zalapski on March 24, 2014 at 01:09 PM

Westgarth would have won that fight had his fist not ended up bleeding from hitting someone in the visor. I know he's a rookie and I know it's mandatory but if he's going to play this role he should drop the helmet and take the extra 2 Min. Guess that proves that Westgarth should have landed some face shots which would have given him the win.

Posted by doobi1 on March 25, 2014 at 08:50 AM

Westgarth has a ton of Ba#ls and I give him all the credit in the world. How about a re-mathc there Lukie? Gazdic is a monster and got more swings in than Westgarth, but this bout my friends, is a draw!

Posted by bberg on March 24, 2014 at 04:18 PM

no one can handle gazdic as far as I have seen, westgarth looked like he was waiting for the bomb! gazdic slight edge!

Posted by slavv on March 24, 2014 at 01:00 PM

Westgarth was clapping afterward because he didn't get murdered. He did a decent job, but mostly on the defense. Gazdic gets the win for throwing and landing more....

Posted by gorman0 on March 24, 2014 at 08:17 PM

Westgarth is junk

Posted by stovepipes on March 24, 2014 at 10:39 AM

I am a big oiler fan also a big gazdic fan I do agree with most people here about the visor but how do you fix problem one way is maybe on an individual basis have a hearing and a potential waiver for certain types of players or just make it mandatory to wear the visor I guess in 4or5years this won't be an issue as most will have one on now I've watched a game earlier this year where gazdic and opponent both took there helmets off and linesman immediately came in story is they've been told to! The only way to do it is they have to grab each other then agree to remove there helmets.

Posted by Medicdude on March 24, 2014 at 10:10 AM

Visor whining was getting old 3 months ago. Time to move on!

Posted by DARCY T on March 30, 2014 at 12:25 PM

westgarth's seeking rematch.he was more cautious but i dont think he landed more than 1.gazdic sneaked some punches in occasionally though imo...edge gazdic

Posted by shawn46 on March 25, 2014 at 09:59 AM

Cant blame the guy (or hold it against him) when the league forces the visor. Also, I do not see westgarth with torn up hands from hitting it... maybe a little wind burn from misses but not from hitting. Gazdic landed high and low and he gets the win

Posted by 777Big on March 24, 2014 at 07:20 AM

Westgarth claps because he's still standing at the end of the fight. Yeah, he had to take on Gazdic but is was mostly defense.

Posted by SylvanLaker on March 25, 2014 at 10:39 PM

DRAW ???????????????

Posted by EK65 on March 24, 2014 at 01:45 AM

The Only... and I literally mean Only bright spot for the Oilers... that game and for the better part of the season... I really wish Mac would draw in... but, if he didn't against Scott or Gratts... sigh so much potential in Oil country..

Posted by NickG on March 24, 2014 at 03:01 PM

Have to respect Westgarth on this to get back on the horse. He did have one nasty fall off of it a few weeks ago. He didn't win, and tied the beast up for much of it. The nervous clap afterward says it all. Nice work big fella, even if its a slight L. W king of Shields.

Posted by Shadel440 on March 24, 2014 at 01:32 AM

Props for Westgarth for even thinking about taking on Gazdic! You can already tell the strategy for handling Gazdic is to tie him up so he can't hit you! Cant say I blame anybody. Gazdic brings a new dynamic to the fight. Possible career ending knockout! Anyway win to Gazdic at least he was trying to fight!

Posted by the kid 61 on March 24, 2014 at 09:32 AM

I gave westgarth a 5 for surviving. not much, goes to gazdic.

Posted by FaxCap on March 24, 2014 at 02:30 PM

Very slight edge to Gazdic....he just looked more dangerous through the whole fight.

Posted by kinga101 on March 24, 2014 at 12:15 PM

Westgarth showed a lot of courage just to be out there with Gazdic even though he was sort of forced to go. Much better showing for Westgarth but Gazdic just too much firepower.

Posted by tuffthinker on March 24, 2014 at 03:35 AM

Decent showing by 'The Constable' after getting KO'd by Gazdic last time out.

Posted by English_Bruin on March 24, 2014 at 04:59 PM

Gazdic is one scary mo fo

Posted by MoparMan on March 24, 2014 at 09:19 PM

Pretty even fight. Edge to Gazdic on muscling Westgarth around and being more offensively minded.

Posted by bigmike53 on March 24, 2014 at 02:32 AM

Westgarth goes for round 2 and it's all about defense. He actually gave Gazdic a pretty good scrap. Close win for Luke Gazdic!

Posted by devodev89 on March 24, 2014 at 07:36 PM

could tell gazdic wasnt goin 100%.. didnt wanna give westgarth another concussion

Posted by 1993again on March 24, 2014 at 07:18 AM

Defensive draw.

Posted by billy jack on March 26, 2014 at 03:59 AM

westgarth like last time bounced his punches off gadzic shield,i dont give a flying fock about the goofs on here telling me about the rule, aint fair and if you dont realize it your stunned.

Westgarth nailed the shield about three times. Just like he did in the last fight. The NHL needs to consider this. I can't fault him - I wouldn't flip the lid off before a fight - but he's knocking other fighters around while wearing and getting saved by the shield. Calling it a draw.

Posted by von_swine on March 26, 2014 at 01:46 AM

Westy, much like the Flames, not having the best of seasons...after all that work, he couldn't get thru to Gaz's face due to the plexi..shame because he 'deserves' his honest shot at payback. D, and prolly a revenge win if there's no windbreaker on #20's lid... p.s.; WORD to MikeB on the breakdown...I'm w/it..

Posted by Massive Coiler on March 24, 2014 at 04:16 PM

Westgarth looked a whole lot better than he did in their first encounter. I'll call it a draw, a combination of failed punches from Gazdic, and visor punches from Westgarth shows that no real damage was done to either guy. Still an entertaining fight.

Posted by demonhead6 on March 24, 2014 at 12:40 PM

Too bad Westgarth couldn't get Gazdic's helmet/w visor ripped off his head. Westgarth cut his knuckles up punching Gazdic's visor. Too bad Tony Twist wasn't still around. He'd drive that visor/face shield into his skull!

Posted by TERMINATOR on March 24, 2014 at 01:31 AM

Very close props to Westy for showing up and wanting to make amends.

Posted by chad420 on March 24, 2014 at 12:03 PM

win Luke Skywalker.....The Hanson Brother with a much better showing....Its tough to fight someone that just cleaned you up.

Posted by Buddy507 on March 24, 2014 at 01:09 AM

Props to Westgarth for getting back on the horse. A lot of clutching by Westgarth so slight edge to Gazdic.

Posted by Spinner55 on March 24, 2014 at 09:15 AM

Great to see you get back on the horse that bucked you off, Kevin. You are a keeper! However, Gazdic still gets the win. Visor whiners practicing their right to free speech.

Posted by kingpaolo on March 26, 2014 at 08:55 PM

good to see KW get back in the ring nh slight win to Gazdic

Posted by Luvdafights on March 24, 2014 at 04:08 PM

Westhgarth very defensive in this one. Gazdic landed quite a few on this one. Must be flames fans voting - w- Gazdic

Posted by TheHunn on March 25, 2014 at 08:53 PM

A 'tough guy' who fights with a visor automatically gets points taken away. Westgarth had no place to punch unless he stuck to upper cuts. Fight was actually close, but win goes to Westgarth for being man enough to fight the guy who clocked him good (in the previous fight) while that guy was wearing the shield.

Posted by rowbearprobear on March 24, 2014 at 10:39 PM

Watching this a$$ clown fight with the full face football shield/helmet is getting old. Oh, wait - no one is allowed to mention that. My bad.

Posted by pepsigenerate on March 24, 2014 at 10:58 AM

Westgarth with the more eggressive mode for the win!.....,their last recent fight was just a punch slip knock down.It was the ref that suddenly jumped in to make it look like an ergent stop of a fight when it tectnically wasn't like that.

Posted by Lucic_Power on March 25, 2014 at 02:38 PM

ALways vote for the guy without the visor. Hockey fight Revolution!

Posted by Pug Face on March 24, 2014 at 02:05 PM

Visor wearing puss.

Posted by legend22 on March 24, 2014 at 10:28 AM

Gadzic does nothing for a win here...Draw at best

Posted by Humper on March 24, 2014 at 10:37 AM

Westgarth does well to avoid a repeat of the last scrap. This was a draw, Gazdic did nothing to get the dub.

Posted by claire alexande on March 25, 2014 at 04:21 PM

Draw, but only because Visor Boy's visage was saved by the plastic. Westgarth was conscious of the need for defence, but Gazdic was conscious of the need to keep his unfair advantage intact. Had to laugh at the incident (2nd period, I think) where Gazdic was acting the tough guy in the midst of this blowout, and McGrattan skated up to him and had a few words. Luke backed away and I can't say I blame him.

Posted by scorp1on on March 24, 2014 at 07:47 AM

Gadzic edges one out here. Westgarth spent 50 percent of his time on defense, another 40 percent trying to figure out ways to take off or avoid hitting the visor, and the remaining 10 percent hitting the visor. I know Gazdic has to wear it and is not allowed to take it off but it's a shame there will be an asterisk next to his name in the minds of fight fans until the grandfathered-in heavies drift out of the league and the matches are apples to apples again, by which time he may not be in his prime anymore.

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on April 16, 2014 at 09:38 PM

I don't like awarding ties very often, but I really have no choice here. Kudos to Westgarth for going after Gaz after getting destroyed in their last bout.

Posted by rcassett on March 29, 2014 at 09:24 PM

If Gazdic is going to keep his visor on during the fight, he should keep it on after the fight. Gutsy rebound by Westgarth.

Posted by kkdowning on March 25, 2014 at 09:41 AM

Going draw here -- Westgarth, to his credit will fight anyone, even someone that KO'd him recently (Westgarth looked better on his skates here). I renew my suggestion / question about why it is not possible to have a shield that can be removed while leaving on the helmet? (I admit to wearing a full cage in my beer league, so don't know much about partial shields) There has to be some engineer somewhere that can figure that out.

Posted by rocky 1 on March 25, 2014 at 11:50 AM

Westgarth was hoping for a different outcome in this fight.Well you still lost big time but managed to stay standing up !Westgarth gave us his imitation of Stortini in triying to hug out a win here!It appears that this is the way guys will fight Gazdic now knowing his power! Come on guys Westgarth landed nothing, close fight my ass!Westgarth clapping for what/ You lost pal! Look idiots if Gazdic takes his helmut off and Westgarth does not the refs jump in and stop the fight!

Posted by boldbilly on March 24, 2014 at 07:05 AM

Gazdic with the ever so slight win ....Westgarth ties him up hoping to avoid the same fate as their last fight.

Posted by SouthPaw017 on March 24, 2014 at 01:44 PM

Draw.. And to chime in on the whole visor debate... Fighting in hockey, more often than not, takes two individuals to partake... That being said, any player that challenges, engages, and ultimately drops them with a visored fighter, is basically fighting at his own risk... This all began years ago when the first helmet rule came in and you had new guys with helmets, veterans without... It's just a progression in the game. I will say I'm not a fan of the visor, but ultimately it's about player safety.. I mean who would want to take a 90+ mph slapshot to the eyes, face, anywhere... But unless both players can step back and put the aggression aside for a moment, and remove each other's helmet, it's just the way it's going to be for a while.

Posted by Mooseslayer on March 24, 2014 at 06:53 PM

Gutless gadzic leaves his visor on- he should undo his helmet so the visor goes off and he doesn't hide behind the visor. What a SOILER Gadzic is.

Posted by ocrage on March 24, 2014 at 02:58 AM

to the guy complaining about lukes visor. he doesn't have a choice, he's technically a rookie this season so he has to wear it. just like peluso and wilson and whoever else is new. idiot. as far as the fight. draw. real technical defense by westy, luke wasn't looking to knock him out so he took it easier on him.
