Hainsey gives Roussel what he deserves. Not sure why Hainsey got a misconduct, but if it were me, I would have given the instigator to Roussel. If there was every anything that will instigate a fight, it is a dirt cheap shot like that on a goalie. Props to Hainsey.

Posted by srehm1 on February 27, 2014 at 11:15 PM

Good job by Hainsey sticking up for his goaltender. Like the spirit in this scrap. Hainsey with the win.

Posted by King of Goons on February 28, 2014 at 08:26 AM

Roussel is a POS who gets what he deserves in this one. Hainsey rearranges his face and completely embarrasses him. Roussel skates off the ice looking like a victim of a Michael Meyers attack. Only a true coward would run a goalie like that. Way to stand up for your team Hainsey.

Roussel pulls a Lucic on a defenseless goalie! Hainsey straightens his ass out and leaves him a bloody mess. Justice is served!

Posted by starsfandave on February 28, 2014 at 01:00 AM

Huge Stars fan. Well deserved beatdown of Roussel at the hands of Hainsey. Stupid penalty that could have really turned the game. He got bumped a little on the rush, but could have done more. He can be exhausting to watch.

The worlds angriest Frenchman runs a goalie only to have the Euro-Disney smacked out of him by the notorious non-fighting pacifist Ron Hainsey

Posted by DARCY T on March 30, 2014 at 07:45 AM

liles threw roussel into his own goalie and hainsey then jumped roussel and made hi paid for liles' mistake...win hainsey to get game misconduct based on reputation is pretty lame

Posted by ETR on February 28, 2014 at 08:42 AM

Good for Hainsey. Bush league move by Roussel deserved that beat down. Don't know Roussel's suspension history but this certainly warrants one. No effort or attempt to avoid hitting the goalie.

Posted by Gunslinger on February 28, 2014 at 01:03 PM

Roussel is a bitch hiding behind a riot shield of a visor. Good to see him get tuned up. He has had it coming for a long time.

Posted by majik317 on March 01, 2014 at 09:48 AM

Roussel is a punk who deserves a beat down every night.

Posted by bigdaddyCane on March 05, 2014 at 03:24 PM

If I was French, I wouldn't try to level a defenseless goalie. Good for you, Hainsey send him off with a memento of what a dirty shot that was.

Posted by shawnrocks on February 27, 2014 at 11:22 PM

that's how to protect a goalie

Posted by Haunski on February 28, 2014 at 01:25 PM

Hainsey steps up and bloodies Roussel

Posted by BennyD on February 28, 2014 at 10:05 AM

On the original play, I thought Liles bumped Roussel, but after the replays, I changed my mind. Love the way Hainsey went after him. Gloves were down early and he was cocked and loaded. Throw 'em first, ask questions later. I think the leakage came from the 2-fisted bum-rush at the start of the tilt. Hainsey with the clear w and a 6.

Posted by wishbone73 on February 28, 2014 at 04:41 PM

can't stand roussel.hainsey handled him.

Posted by staceyb on February 28, 2014 at 05:08 AM

Too bad it was left up to Hainsey who fights about once every two years to dole out the retaliatory punishment to that bleepin' a-hole Roussel instead of the now traded Westgarth.

Posted by hal29 on November 07, 2017 at 12:06 AM

Back in the day when we were 15-16 hainsey and I played on the same team for a few years. Crazy how the years went by.

Posted by GCBC00 on February 27, 2014 at 11:53 PM

Good example of policing the game by a non-fighter. Liked just about everything that transpired. Roussell went to the net, goalie got bumped, Hainsey took care of his netminder and gave Roussel a nice diet of rights. Win Hainsey and a decent 6.

Posted by dapwas20 on February 28, 2014 at 08:51 AM

Putting an elbow to the chin of the goalie to assure his head hits the cross bar is not exactly "trying to avoid" contact with the goalie and it was clearly diliberate as shown by the follow through with the elbow...this is the exact reason the instigator rule is good intentions with no common sense/justice being served...Roussel is the instigator in this case and that's why the league needs to re-think the rule. If players know they will get the extra penaltly for causing the reaction, they will more than likely not engage and then the league will have a better product cause the players will police their own games on their terms and the cheapshots will be less protected by the gaps in the rules. Enforcing the visor rule would also be a good start.

Beat down of a rat is always good. Excellent police work Hainsey.

Posted by The Mad House on February 27, 2014 at 11:41 PM

That's a hit worth starting a fight over... And the beat down could not have come to a more worthy person.. the poor mans Sean Avery himself! The Frenchman got the mess beat out of him, and he deserved it... but it was Hainsey? Weird.

Posted by Great Murray on February 28, 2014 at 09:54 AM

Roussel looked like he was trying to beg for forgiveness when Hainsey hit him in the mush twice. Only thing wrong here was Bettman's bullchit instigator call. Hainsey did exactly what he should have done...5 for fighting for both...plus a roughing call on Roussel...Charging? Come on..he was going to the net with the puck and got a little help from the "D". Game Miconduct? For What!!! Tutu Bettman is still looking for ballet on ice.

Posted by endor on February 28, 2014 at 11:42 AM

Kudos to Hainsey putting a beatdown on Roussel for his cheap shot. The replay shows Rousell was not pushed and should have held up. What a jerk! This is why fighting must stay in the NHL!!

Posted by 33Oliwa on February 28, 2014 at 07:25 PM

Fights fueled with anger and not followed up with a sportsman-like tap on the helmet afterwards, hate that, seem to be more entertaining.

Posted by canamrugby on March 01, 2014 at 06:45 PM

Haha Roussel got his ass handed to him.

Posted by Basil5555 on February 28, 2014 at 08:58 AM

Roussel runs the goalie, gets his faces pushed in for it, as well he should have, good job by Hainsey stepping up for his goalie. Roussel running his yap after getting destroyed, looking like the tool he is.

Posted by chl37 on February 28, 2014 at 12:51 PM

ain't so tough without your protective visor eh roussel? you get what you asked for . . and deserve.

Posted by slavv on February 28, 2014 at 12:19 PM

Roussel got the ass beating he deserved. Goalies are getting little respect in their creases this year, by dipshits such as Roussel....

Posted by sedinfan on February 28, 2014 at 12:07 AM

Good job Hainsey. I didn't think he was a fighter, but he gave Roussell exactly what he deserved.

Posted by BruinsAllDaySon on March 01, 2014 at 02:26 PM

Roussel destroyed... again. Becoming a pattern this year!

Posted by captainmook on March 02, 2014 at 02:36 AM

Roussel is a tough SOB when he has his visor on and running goalies. CANT STAND THIS GUY .... He's exactly why we need policemen in the league, to keep dickheads like Roussel in line. Win and props to Hainsey for laying the beat down on Monsieur Dickhead....

Posted by Daysofcoleco on February 28, 2014 at 01:58 PM

You'd think Rouss would never do something stupid like that again... yet...

Posted by Amerkfan8 on February 28, 2014 at 11:37 PM

Hockey-related-Ron with about as good of a response you could possibly have in a situation like this. He was not gonna have it, that's for sure.

Posted by gogrg on February 28, 2014 at 08:24 AM

I am a huge Roussell fan, he couldnt really stop and he didnt want to fight and got blindsided by Hainsey, that set him up for defeat right there.

Posted by duffbrainard on February 28, 2014 at 08:05 PM

I'm no physicist but I'm pretty sure Roussel got pushed into the goalie here. Everybody's saying he ran the goalie but he most definitely got nudged by the defenseman. Watch it without slow motion. There's no way in hell he could have avoided contact with the goalie.

Posted by EK65 on February 28, 2014 at 12:50 AM

Respect gained for Hainsey, Im so sick of the instigator rule.. ill leave it at that..

Posted by nhlofficialsblo on February 27, 2014 at 11:27 PM

Mister Hainsey wins this and things went down as they should have but a MAJOR for charging? Nahhhhh. Another creative call by a moron NHL official.

Posted by DylanG1933 on September 10, 2014 at 05:28 PM

Didn't think Hainsey could really fight. Props to him for standing up for his goalie.

Posted by brownie21 on February 28, 2014 at 01:56 PM

Dirty collision - great scrap and kudos to big 65!!

Posted by snowave on February 28, 2014 at 04:13 PM

nice job, Hainsey... givin' the cheapshot artist Roussel a beating... I love it!

Posted by samtheman on March 01, 2014 at 08:23 AM

Roussel gets a well deserved beatdown. Old school ice justice doled out by Hainsey.

Posted by kkdowning on March 01, 2014 at 04:24 PM

Ha, that was good stuff, hope the goalie is OK. The mad Frenchman does much better when he gets the early jump on his opponents. He did not get the jump in this one and ended up bloodied in this loss

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on February 28, 2014 at 10:49 PM

Hainsey jumped the frog and gave him a well deserved beat down.

Posted by RightintheIrish on February 27, 2014 at 11:13 PM

Good for Hainey...that kind of collision with a goalie must be dealt with swiftly and decisively...Roussel got owned

Posted by StormBrew on March 01, 2014 at 05:13 PM

Way to go Hainsey ! (Canes fan) This is precisely the reason the fighting needs to stay in the NHL. Players policing the game Kind of sad that my teams has to have Hainsey hand out the justice

Posted by brianamoro on March 01, 2014 at 11:03 AM

D bag Roussel gets what he deservs win for Ronnie

Posted by Spinner55 on February 28, 2014 at 10:46 AM

Roussel deserved what he got...good on you, Hainsey.

Posted by GreyGoose on February 28, 2014 at 02:04 AM

Roussel runs goalie for no reason , gets in fight with a nobody and gets bloodied in front of home crowd .

Posted by IwillBruinyou on February 28, 2014 at 06:39 PM

Man crashes the goalie he should get whats comming to him. Not defending what Lucic did but To bad Buffalo didn't have the balls to go after him.

Posted by techtim89 on February 28, 2014 at 08:52 AM

Hainsey whooped him and for good reason!

Posted by tyrone on February 28, 2014 at 08:44 AM

Frenchie will learn or should learn after this arse whooping. Hainsey opened a can of whoop whoop.

Posted by doobi1 on February 28, 2014 at 03:03 AM

Hainsey is the man in this one. Sticks up for the goalie, and a bloody nose to Roussel. I only wish he had taken on Scott in the previous game. I'd like to see haystacks get ass kicked and I believe Hainsey just might be the guy who can.

Posted by mikebflorida on February 28, 2014 at 09:34 AM

Hainsey is my newest hero. Roussel is a rat fock piece of dog sh1t and Hainsey beats his sissy ass after running the goalie. He's such a puke and is the poster child for abolishment of the instigator penalty. Why should Carolina get punished for that? Jesus h peanut butter christ this league is so focking stupid.

Posted by ghjkfdhgfd on February 28, 2014 at 06:04 PM

hell yah, i love this!

Posted by Buntard on February 27, 2014 at 11:15 PM

With 8 career fights to date, it takes a lot to get Hainsey angry. Bowling over and elbowing Dobby will do it. This was no token fight. Hainsey went for blood and collected plenty. Not just a fight, this was a brutal beat down.

Posted by Jack Meoff on February 28, 2014 at 08:32 PM

Cheapshot on a goalie trying to make a save and he ( Roussel ) should have paid more. Thorton paid for Lucic's sins and hope Roussel gets more of what's coming to him.

Posted by sjeffh on February 28, 2014 at 05:21 AM

I thought I saw a Hurricane bump Roussel into the netminder there though probably not as hard as he went in. As for the 'fight', I'm not sure Roussel thru a single punch.

Posted by Raoul Duke 708 on February 28, 2014 at 12:30 AM

Good for Hainsey. One question, where the hell did the instigator come from? If that was Brodeur in the cage the nhl would have given Ron a medal.

Posted by Massive Coiler on February 28, 2014 at 10:13 AM

Roussel gets bloodied for running the goalie. Hainsey did the right thing instigating that fight.

Posted by chad420 on February 28, 2014 at 10:48 AM

Hainsey lights up AR-15

Posted by Sir Beatdown on February 27, 2014 at 11:20 PM

Hainsey isn't known for letting his fists fly, but he let them fly with bad intentions on the mug of Roussel. Good on Hainsey for doing his job.

Posted by Humper on February 28, 2014 at 09:38 PM

Hainsey serves up a plate of knuckles to Roussel, who had it coming.

Posted by Big_Fat_Dan on February 28, 2014 at 01:44 AM

Yes Hainsey! That's how it's done! Great job.

Posted by jimmat on March 02, 2014 at 04:54 PM

Roussel takes a well deserved beating.

Posted by chazzman on February 28, 2014 at 08:53 AM

Fight wasn't bad kind of one sided didn't look like Roussel was ready for the onslaught from Hainsey witch did the right thing wen your goalie gets run as for the commentators comments I feel Roussel was stopping u see the spray slight push from deference pushed him into the goalie definitely doesn't deserve a game misconduct .listen we want to protect players but that was in the flow of the game it wasn't intentional it is still hockey really not curling lets get real and I'm a ranger fan so no allegiance to either of these teams.

Posted by ozman on February 28, 2014 at 03:25 AM

thats bulsh....objective opinion here and Roussel was driven into the goalie and was blindsided when trying to say so...he wasn't even ready to fight. This shouldn't have happened and if you think Roussel ran the goalie, you're blind.

Posted by STL13 on February 28, 2014 at 07:06 AM

I think Roussel was going to try to cut in front of the net and couldn't. I think Hainsey was guilty of doing way more damage to Roussel than what happened to the goalie and it was even 100% intentional. If you watch closely, Roussel was trying to say (until he got attacked) that he was pushed (or perhaps prevented from cutting in front of the net) into the goalie. I think a few games suspension should be handed out to Hainsey. They take all of these precautions to keep people from getting injured and then some clown flat out attacks another player. I gave it draw (knowing Hainsey dominated him) because Hainsey shouldn't get any credit for something like this.

Posted by nait on February 27, 2014 at 11:40 PM

I give Roussel a little credit. he was chasing the puck and did try to lessen the impact, though he could have done more

Posted by SFVflyers88 on February 27, 2014 at 11:36 PM

I dont care if you dont like the word FRENCHY and he got the FROG kicked out of him.

Posted by pmarz1 on February 28, 2014 at 07:54 AM

Totally objective viewpoint here, have no horse in this race. Did you notice how Liles(26) sheepishly moves away after the collision? Don't watch it in slow-mo, play it at full speed, he hit Roussel just at the base of the faceoff circle sending him into Khudobin, then looks away. Refs need to be able to look at a replay of things like this so as to get the call right. A charging major and game misconduct is completely wrong.
