While Thornton is much bigger, remember that Drew Doughty was in the media talking about how they wanted to knock the Sharks out of the playoffs before they even start. As the captain, Jumbo probably felt it was his job to shut Doughty up, or at least show him how tough the Sharks were gonna be in these 2 games. It wasn't a cheap win, it was doing exactly what the team needed.

Posted by sedinfan on April 06, 2012 at 12:52 AM

Where did that come from? An easy win for Thornton, but he is about a foot taller.

Posted by staceyb on April 06, 2012 at 06:18 PM

Thornton doesn't fight much anymore and Doughty never fights, but the outcome is hardly surprising. Doughty eats a diet of lefts.

Back in his salad days, Jumbo Joe could throw quite effectively. He became the "player who was too valuable to fight" (see Chara, Zdeno). And justifiably so. But he's still got it- at least against people a weight class below him.

Posted by Hockey Fan Zed on April 07, 2012 at 04:18 PM

Total domination by Thornton - thats about the only thing he has won so far. Not a great leader on his team if this is his only claim to fame so far. Total loser to pick a fight with a guy much much smaller. Gutless move.

That Wasn't a Fight, That was Rape...J T with the Win

Posted by bammer24 on April 06, 2012 at 01:28 AM

Good to see big Joe can throw them for the win.Next time try someone a little bigger.Try Parros he`s out there right.

Posted by Helmut on April 06, 2012 at 09:39 PM

Last time I saw Thornton fight Eric Lindros beat the piss out of him.

Posted by The Mad House on April 06, 2012 at 12:40 AM

Thornton is a big man and he threw those lefts well. A win for him, he really should do this more.

Posted by Josh62084 on April 06, 2012 at 12:44 AM

The inexperienced Doughty could not get loose and Joe fed him with few lefts. No damage but a couple of punches connected.

Posted by DARCY T on April 11, 2012 at 04:05 AM

1st doughty's nhl fight..or beating...big joe used to be good at fighting earlier in his career but he doesnt do it anymore.he beat doughty like a coat on a hanger here though

Posted by jlmcgui on April 06, 2012 at 04:26 PM

Win for Thornton; should be an interesting somewhat meaningless game on Saturday.

Posted by 777Big on April 07, 2012 at 09:27 AM

Easy, homers. I see it is the first time all year you get to s*ck Joey's d*ck.

Posted by gogrg on February 24, 2014 at 08:13 AM

Thorton is a great at fighting guys out of his weight class, give Doughty props, cant give either of them the win

draw super star fight

Posted by LicoriceBiscuit on April 06, 2012 at 08:17 PM

Without a doubt JT won the fight, but props to DD for sticking up for himself (for JT's crosscheck to the grill,) and not hiding behind another KIngs, (who probably would have gotten their ass kicked as well.) As a Kings fan that feeble display of pugilism in all three fights was a bit embarrassing. Would have been different if they had won the game, but couldn't even manage that. Someone brought up DD comments to the media regarding knocking SJ out of the playoffs?? What is he supposed to say; we intend to lose to SJ hence losing home ice or standing? It's called motivation.

another how was your flight and family

Posted by WickedMonstah on April 06, 2012 at 02:21 PM

Joe Thornton with the decisive victory but it could have been so much more interesting if he knew how to create some space to those left hand bombs.

Posted by RangersSuck NJD on April 06, 2012 at 04:36 PM

Who was the shark that stopped the puck from the bench?

Posted by SouthPaw017 on April 06, 2012 at 02:26 AM

Thornton rains lefts all over the Human Mop... He could have picked him up and dusted the boards at the Kings bench... The most active thing Doughty did was after the fact, when he apparently thought he was in a mosh pit and did a couple hair flips...

Those looked like some Heavy Handed Lefts St Thomas 1 London O

Big Joe takes this one.

Posted by leumas12 on April 06, 2012 at 03:35 PM

Easy win for Thorton These announcers are TERRIBLE! How can you people in LA listen to them for 80+ games a season?

Posted by Snoka on April 06, 2012 at 10:44 AM

No contest, win for Thornton

Posted by Scatheist on April 24, 2014 at 06:12 PM

Joe feeds Doughty the lefts! Doughty didn't land a single punch.

Posted by digitalroc on April 07, 2012 at 12:50 PM

Big Joe with the TKO! The stripes had to interfere to stop this one sided bout, good to see Joe ready for the playoffs.

Posted by rocky 1 on April 06, 2012 at 09:25 PM

Joe destroys Doughty in this one.Joe is a big strong man and can toss them!

Posted by bruins rule on April 06, 2012 at 08:32 AM

thornton gets the win in this fight.

Posted by Chak on April 06, 2012 at 09:51 PM

I rarely if ever comment on fights or how they are scored, you guys know way more about it than I ever would, but I can't believe that anyone could score this fight as a win for Doughty.

Posted by homeland on April 06, 2012 at 02:23 PM

wow, Joe kicked his ass........

Posted by orangecuse on April 06, 2012 at 06:26 PM

Thorton with an easy win. I'm glad he went after some one his own size oops or 6" shorter. Thorton won easy but the playoffs are coming up and Thorton will shrink and the Sharks will get eliminated in 6 by some one

Posted by GreatMurray on April 06, 2012 at 07:10 AM

Thornton rarely fights at all...so when he does he beats up a midget...nice Joe. You won...I'm not sure what you won but you won.

Posted by Jaxman2002 on April 09, 2012 at 11:49 AM

Jumbo Joe with the nice lefts...Doughty has no idea what he is doing at all...

Posted by cible on April 06, 2012 at 02:09 AM

hey drew, when you engage into a fight the point is to punch the opponent face and not just eating lefts while not fireing back!!!!!

Posted by thekingswarrior on April 06, 2012 at 07:48 AM

Joe Thornton a true winner in this scarp. Drew Doughty was just hanging on toward the end. Doughty felt overmatched very quickly.

Posted by Joescribe on April 06, 2012 at 08:19 AM

Thornton whopped some butt!

Posted by Spon on April 07, 2012 at 01:00 PM

Thornton throwing lefts, Doughty trying to survive. Thornton win. I'ts funny to see the Kings fans cheer like Doughty won. hahahaha

Posted by OrangePuck on April 06, 2012 at 09:41 PM

Jim Fox is such an idiot. "Drew Doughty doesn't scrap that often." It was his first fight in FOUR YEARS YOU IDIOT. The only thing that fat boy runs on a consistent basis is his mouth. Loved seeing Thornton pummel him. Unsurprisingly Doughty kept his fat mouth shut for the rest of the game.

Posted by Crocosaur on April 06, 2012 at 10:15 PM

Have to admire Doughty willing to get in there, but having your first go with a guy like Thornton is pretty daunting. Add to the fact that he didn't get off as many punches, and it's an easy decision for Jumbo Joe.

superstar fights! XD

Drew Barrymore gets owned

Posted by lcrannell on April 06, 2012 at 01:31 PM

Not really a fair fight, but was happy to see Thorton throw the lefts and stand up for his teammates. Thorton won over an unlikely opponent.

Posted by umad000 on April 06, 2012 at 09:41 AM

lol whoever voted that this was a "draw" is obviously a mad kings fan, haha. And just because your player doesnt know how to fight doesnt mean the other guy is a "spot picker" (joe's first fight in a few years, definitely not a spot picker). It's hockey, fights happen, and sometimes you lose! Hahaha, yeah, I hope Joe does act this tough in the playoffs too cause thats how you win games, you have to be tough! Joe kicked some ass this fight its good to see.

Posted by Jordybats99 on March 25, 2016 at 10:13 AM

All Jumbo Joe.

Easy win for Jumbo.

Posted by stefanpbidwell on April 07, 2012 at 04:59 PM

good bout doughty way above his head thinking he can beat jumbo joe

Posted by wineshark on April 06, 2012 at 04:52 PM

How anyone could vote for anything other than a dominant win is beyond me. Doughty in his first pro fight versus Thornton who isn't a stranger to a fight but seldom does so. Doughty was schooled and abused. Domination for Thornton in this battle. Doughty needs some lessons in self-defense.

Posted by isewinsf on April 06, 2012 at 09:27 AM

Doughty's an idiot, nothing new, he's on a team of idiots. Awesome fight! Great to see Jumbo fighting. Love it!!!!!!

Posted by Birdman22 on July 11, 2013 at 04:30 AM

Doughty won this fight because he stood up to Thornton. Good show.

Posted by probie4life on April 06, 2012 at 01:47 AM

Posted by travist on April 06, 2012 at 12:41 AM

big bird wins this one, but i look forward to watching the sharks choke away another playoff season.

Posted by kkdowning on April 06, 2012 at 10:09 PM

All Jumbo Joe -- Doughty does not want to see a left for some time

Posted by majik317 on April 06, 2012 at 09:09 AM

What the hell is this Joe? Another Kevin Bieksa, another spot picker. I hope you act this tough in the playoffs. I hope when this happens to Marleau again you'll step in.

Posted by chad420 on April 06, 2012 at 10:13 AM

Jumbo Joe works over DD

Posted by bdpetroni on April 06, 2012 at 02:22 PM

Thornton is 4 inches taller, and 50 lbs heavier. Yet he's the one who ended up with a bloody lip. I give Daughty the win on principle.

Posted by jim_mckenzie33 on April 06, 2012 at 01:52 AM

Jagoff Joe picking another easy spot. Cheap win Jagoff.
