Wild Wild West
Six out of the seven fights last night took place in the Western Conference, thanks to the Canadiens being the lone Eastern team in action not playing overseas.
The Ducks decided to drop the gloves with a different divisional opponent than the Sharks. Up until Tuesday, all but two of the team’s scraps this preseason were against San Jose but that changed with a four-fight effort against the Kings.
Kevin Westgarth made quick work of Steve Montador in the first period. Matt Greene fought for the first time since being acquired by L.A., taking on Brennan Evans in the second period, which also saw Wayne Simmonds take on both Troy Bodie and Travis Moen.
In other action, Andre Roy took on Mathieu Roy, and Kyle Beach vs. Marc-Andre Bergeron (who suffered a broken nose against Beach) was the lone fight in Blackhawks–Wild. Kyle Quincey exchanged blows with Greg Stewart as well, making the Red Wings the last NHL team to receive a fighting major this month.
