Bolts’ Comeback Ties Series, Sharks Fall Short

Bolts’ Comeback Ties Series, Sharks Fall Short

Two 3-0 leads over the weekend. One team made the comeback, one fell short.

The Bruins put up three goals in the first period of Saturday's game.  Things started to get a little chippy and at the end of the period there was a scrum involving everyone on the ice outside of the goaltenders. Rich Peverley and Marc-Andre Bergeron eventually dropped the gloves, exchanged a few punches and grappled while everyone else was broken up. Steve Downie wound up getting the only extra penalty and the Bolts would have to start the second on the penalty kill.

Tampa killed off the penalty and whether it was that PK, the fight, the break or some good coaching, the Lightning turned into a different team that second period. They started getting through Tim Thomas and Sean Bergenheim tied it with his league-leading 9th goal. Simon Gagne capped off the comeback in the third and the series is now tied 2-2.

On Sunday the first period of the game was scoreless, but things started to look familiar after the Canucks jumped out to a 3-0 lead after a burst of goals midway through the second. Things looked over when Alexandre Burrows made it 4-0 in the third, but the Sharks kept going and pulled within two when Ryane Clowe scored with a little over four minutes left. That's all San Jose had in the tank though, and they now go back to Vancouver trailing 3-1 in the series.

At the end of the game Clowe popped Ryan Kesler. When asked what happened Kesler said, “Head shot. Sucker punched me. Didn't expect it and hopefully the League looks at it.”

More Sharks-Canucks

There have been quite a few good bouts between these two teams over the years. I posted a great battle between Dody Wood and Scott Walker below. Be sure to check out both feeds on the page. The other fights from that game were added as well.
