Pens Fighting Towards Team History

Pens Fighting Towards Team History

With 65 fighting majors, the Penguins are sitting comfortably atop the team FM leaderboard for now, although a trio of teams (the Blues, B's and Ducks) will likely give them a run for the top spot as we near the end of the season.

The Pens are currently on pace to finish the year with around 80 FM's as a team, which would be the most in club history since the 1988-89 squad finished with 95. In fact, Pittsburgh has only cracked the 60+ mark twice in that span of time.

To show the depth that the Pens are sporting in terms of dropping the gloves, 20 different players have fought at least once this season for the club. In addition, only two players, Deryk Engelland and Mike Rupp, are in the top 20 in terms of individual fighting majors. Engelland, the team leader, has only fought twice since the end of December as well, and the damage could have been a lot worse if Eric Godard didn't miss time with a broken orbital bone.

Kris Letang added to the total on Friday, tangling with Devils ironman Travis Zajac. Bryan Allen also danced with Troy Brouwer in CanesHawks.
