The fight breakdown
After seeing what appeared to be a vicious check from behind in real time, you understand Chris Stewart wanting to have a little piece of Cole Bardreau. But for with Ross Johnston on the ice it was only a matter of time for the two to meet up and have it out, with already sitting in the box earlier in the game for roughing. Johnston comes into the melee and grabs Stewart (who seemed to be looking for Ross) and it's go time
They hug up immediately and separate from the pack of players, and then the gloves come off over the top. Stewart fires off a right first before Johnston comes back with a couple of his own. Johnston then tries to go under Stewart's left arm as they skate away from the boards. Both guys have pretty good control of the others arms and so the struggle is real in this one. Not many big landings before they go down to the ice and the linesmen pile on.
Chris Stewart Notes -
For Stewart, this was his second fight of the season. His last fight came on October 19th, 2019 against Jamie Oleksiak of the Dallas Stars.
It was his first career fight against Ross Johnston and his third career fight against someone from the New York Islanders.
This was the 64th fight for Stewart in the NHL
Ross Johnston Notes -
For Johnston this is his second fight of the season. His last fight came on October 12th, 2019 against Josh Brown of the Florida Panthers.
It was his first career fight against Chris Stewart and his first career fight against someone on the Philadelphia Flyers.
This was the 9th fight for Johnston in the NHL.
Stewart in the floating turtle. Easy decision.
In a modern day heavyweight tilt. Both guys leave a bit to be desired but, put fourth a nice effort for an "end of the shift tilt" Draw & 4
Stewart can handle himself, but Johnston has too much strength and gets the decision in an uneventful scrap....
Draw ... one good shot from each dude.
Close scrap with a slight nod to Johnston. I wouldn’t argue a Draw.
Stewart landed the most powerful punches in this fight. Johnson gets the takedown, but Stewart lands more damage. Winner: Stewart.
Ms. Johnston’s visor comes off so he protects his pride and does the only thing he can and wrestle stewie down
Stewart tries to start something with the smaller player until Johnston steps in and says I don't think so. Slight edge to Johnston and a 4
Nice elbow by Stewart to knock Johnston helmet off
Stew neutralized the cr*p talking Baby Huey. If NHL were so anti-“staged fighting” off the face offs, nuclear warheads like these two could get their arms extended and have a real battle. As long as they have to emerge from a scrum, with sticks and refs and players and walls, not much going to happen. Bottom line: Flyers needed Stew I nnroster and in lineup this year more than Islanders need RJ.
Draw complete disappointment
Anyone who says good fight , has never been in a fight in thier lives, crap fight for two fighters. Total draw. Weak Fight
RJ's throwing hand is all bruised and cut from a previous fight so he had to settle for the take down. These krypton helmets with mandatory visors would make Smokin' Joe think twice about getting into a scrap. The human element in hockey continues to be eliminated or watered down.
Close fight, Johnston with one good connection, you can see Stewart’s head rock back, would like to see this one again.
I was in Hockey fights heaven when these two squared off. Next time will be better. Draw.
The bout had the potential to become on of the better fights of the season since Johnston finally got an adequate opponent in Stewart. Unfortunately nothing came of it. Stewie never really got his balance and Ross was unable to capitalize on it properly. Both could have done better. Loved how Stewart welcomed Johnston with an elbow at the beginning of the scrum. Pure experience!
That was a draw and nothing else... Really need a rematch of these big experienced fighters....Both guys never got going, Stewart tripped and nothing else........Anyone that is giving Johnstone win is poor judge.. Split need rematch...
Good scrap between two big boys. Even fight down the middle.
