Mar 30, 2007 Tampa Bay Lightning Shane O'Brien
1pd 09:49 Carolina Hurricanes David Tanabe
Vincent Lecavalier buries Frantisek Kaberle into the boards, causing Tanabe and a few other 'Canes to go after him. O'Brien comes to Lecavalier's aide and shoves Tanabe to the ice. Tanabe gets back up and they drop the gloves, squaring off at center ice. They grab ahold of each other and wrestle for a bit. O'Brien throws two rights at the back of Tanabe's helmet while Tanabe tries to push O'Brien into the boards. Tanabe goes down to a knee, allowing O'Brien to take his helmet off. O'Brien then throws three rights to the back of Tanabe's head as well as getting in an uppercut. Tanabe falls to the ice and O'Brien quickly lets go just as the linesmen start to move in.

Lecavalier threw a hard check and Tanabe came over to get in his face about it. The minute he got near #4, O'Brien lit him up with a two handed shiver then immediately dropped the gloves. O'Brien wound up pulling his head down and whaling on the back of his helmet. I guess he got tired of that, because he ripped Tanabe's helmet off and continued whaling on the back of his head. I don't think Tanabe ever threw a single punch. The definition of total domination. And way to stick up for your teammates, Shane!

O'Brien handled a bit non-fighter Tanabe here, scoring CLEAR WIN.

No sense in bustin' up your knuckles on the back of some turtle's helmet. So smart move by O'Brein to rip Tanabe's helmet off and land some additional blows. Nice beat down by O'Brien.

O'Brien dominates a retard. I love it that Vinny nailed their guy and Tanabe comes towards Vinny and Shane didn't even hesitate and cut Tanabe off at the pass. Great unselfish move by Shane. The video was terrible, good thing I was watching it live last night.

That was terrible camera work. I was hoping they would have the Tampa feed, as it stayed focused on O'Brien the whole time. He came flying in and leveled Tanabe with a two handed check up high, then dropped the gloves and waited for tanabe who obliged. Shane landed 3 straight rights right off the bat, and thats why you see Tanabe with his head down the entire time.

Tanabe wasn't real smart going after O'Brien. Maybe that's why he plays for Carolina.

O'Brien Clubbed him to the ice like a schoolgirl.

I hate to be greedy, but any chance we could find the Tampa feed for the fight? That camera work was horrid. Looked like a great fight, though, O'brien completely dominated it.

O'Brien was the perfect guy Tampa needed. I'm a Habs fan and when i saw Anaheim giving O'Brien to Tampa, i knew that the Lighning would be harder to beat at each game. O'Brien and Roy are such great fighters...

Anaheim is the nest for fighters...

The whole reason for fighting right here. Defend the star player......do not want your Starting center to break a hand on that loser's face....

Vinnie can take care of himself (see Stanley Cup Playoffs vs. Iginla), but it is good to finally see someong willing (and very able) to take the punches for Vinnie.

Go Bolts!!

Anyone who rated this a Tanabe win is clearly OUT OF THEIR MINDS! O'Brien dominated the bout. Win to O'Brien.

No contest. I agree that if Lecavalier (or anybody) wants to crush people on the ice, they should be able to back it up. People might hate guys like Avery and Tucker, but at least they do their own dirty work.

Lecavalier checked Kaberle hard into the boards, momentarily stunning him. After the whistle, Tanabe came right after Vinny. O'Brien stepped in immediately and dropped the gloves. O'Brien had a definitie size and skill advantage and completely dominated Tanabe, punching him repeatedly in the back of the head until Tanabe fell on the ice and the two were seperated. Not a very good fight, as Tanabe was completely outmatched.
