Never been much of a Komisarek fan,
but that was one royal pasting of a hit.

Good on Gaunce to instinctively react
to his fellow player having to follow the red line
just to get to the bench,
although it was immediately clear
that he (Gaunce) didn't have much of a game plan
once the swinging started.

Heavy blindside open ice hit of the Scott Stevens variety that knocked Olver's head into the stands and Gaunce went after Komisarek in retaliation. Gaunce lost the fight and Olver has a concussion--not a good night for the Avs. Their season has been a lost cause, too.

Komisarek wins a rare fight but kudos to Gaunce. Based on what we have seen with blinsilde hits, me thinks there will be a short suspension, but who knows anymore. Since it is the Leafs and Brian Burke, nothing may happen as Burkie and Mr. Campbell are rumored to be lovers.

Komisarek singlehandly dominates the Avs on this shift. I think the hit was clean -- Colin Campbell should ask himself "What would Scott Stevens do?"

Let's get the fight out of the way...Win Komisarek and props to Gaunce.
I feel komi is known for throwing thunderous (yet clean) body checks. Although this one is very borderline as the puck had passsed the Av's forward and i think Komi had time to ease up.
Unfortunately, I see a short suspension for Komisarek.
This is not good for the leafs as they're fighting for the last playoff spot...

Gaunce steps in gamely, and gets lit up.

Oliver is 5'10" Komisarek is 6'4". Its hard to have a shoulder to shoulder hit with this kind of discrepancy. I guess Komisarkec could have gone to one knee to get down to Oliver's chest level. b.t. makes a good point about equipment. The shoulder and elbow pads have hard plastic exterior. Good for protecting shoulders and elbows but bad when they land flush on say somebodies head. Maybe they should strap pillows on everybody's head. I would rather see a physical game with pillows than to take all the hitting and fighting out of the game. Win Komisarek.

Goddamnit... for the record, I was wrong AGAIN about a suspension. But I never said it was a dirty hit, it was a beautiful one. But questionable. Hence the headlines about "escaping" punishment. If you disagree fine, but its preposterous to assume that I've never played the game, or don't understand it.

As for needing to have fought in hockey to review a hockey fight... tell me again how many movies Roger Ebert directed. I played hockey for over a dozen years, and I stand by my thoughts that if everyone dressed like Shanahan, not everyone who was freight trained would find themselves concussed. I'm pretty confident the majority who've watched/played hockey for the last twenty or more years would agree with that.

Komisarek, 5.

Komi with the clean hit and the W in the fight

Video too dodgy for me to judge whether the hit was clean. If Komisarek had kept his arm down it would have been totally clean for sure. But anyway K with the win.

I dont think Oliver will be complementing Holos on his passing skills anytime soon.

2009 - Legal hit

2011 -illegal hit

the rule was changed... sorry to disappoint everyone who loves those hits but they are illegal today, whether you agree or not. It doesnt have to be coming across the blue line into the zone, its blindside lateral movement

Win Komisarek

Wow, the Komisarek from days past shows up for a shift.

The hit seemed OK....technically. Wonder if the league will take action with the recent crack-down...

That's about the only fight Komisarek will every clearly win. Stop crying about the hit.
