Zenon Konopka’s Thirtysomething

Zenon Konopka earned another two fighting majors last night, taking on Tom Kostopoulos and Jay Harrison.
Konopka leads the league in FMs this season and at 32, has dropped the gloves more than any player since Peter Worrell had 33 in 2001-02. Only Konopka, Worrell, Andrei Nazarov, Jody Shelley and Krzysztof Oliwa have had 30 or more FMs in the past 10 seasons.
More logs and video
The NHL logs now go back to 1963-64 (archives). After the NHL expansion era, this seemed like the next year to jump back to. It was John Ferguson‘s rookie season. Ferguson is widely regarded as the first player to wear the label of enforcer. Besides being the toughest on the ice, he also scored 145 goals in 500 NHL games.
I’ve been uploading both recent clips to fill in logs from a few years ago and also some highlight vintage clips to give past years some visual.
Awards are coming!
Always a fun time around here, we’ll be releasing the season award list soon.
