Welcome to the 2009 Playoffs
After Ilya Kovalchuk’s surprise showing against Bryan McCabe last Thursday, the remainder of the NHL’s regular season was relatively uneventful. The final three days only produced a total of four fights, and all of them took place on Saturday.
The Bolts and Thrashers ended up giving us our final multi-fight game of the season. The two teams dropped the gloves three times during the first period. Seconds after Eric Boulton got the better of Zenon Konopka, a recently active Evgeni Artyukhin used a size advantage to out-duel a game Chris Thorburn. A short scrap between Zach Bogosian and Matt Pettinger occured later on in the period.
Elsewhere, Jody Shelley and Raitis Ivanans decided to have one final dance during an afternoon affair between the Sharks and Kings. The fight was decent with Ivanans landing the slightly better shots.
Always moving
The NHL regular season is admittedly a hectic time for me. Once the playoffs start, fights or not, the decrease in games alone helps me finally get to some of the things I’ve been meaning to do for a while: feature additions, content additions, code cleanup, etc. Frequent video updates will continue, I’ll especially try and plug up any recent misses. New content should roll out from time to time and I’ll also be restarting the Q&A series. We’ll keep you updated, and enjoy the playoffs. We’ll post our predictions tomorrow. – David
