Star Gazing
Bryan Smolinski and Brent Sopel each had an assist in their Vancouver Canucks debuts, but Jeff Cowan took home the number one star in the Canucks 4-3 win over the Phoenix Coyotes.
Cowan scored his first goal of the season, a shorthanded tally, and also got into a quick scrap with Josh Gratton.
Mark Rycroft took on Danny Richmond in the other fight of the night. Neither of the last two fights for the Colorado Avalanche involved Ian Laperriere. I smell a conspiracy.
Actually, with Scott Parker back on the Avs, Lappy might get some rest now. Parker was in the lineup for the Avalanche last night. He logged 7:53 of ice time and was a +1 with an assist, his first point in twelve games played this season.

Leading role suits newest Shark Guerin
According to hockeyfights.com, Guerin has been in 74 fights over his NHL career, including five in the postseason.
“It’s been part of my game since I stepped into the league,” said Guerin, who has been in two fights this season. “The game hasn’t changed that much where you can get by without doing it. Maybe it’s not seven, eight, nine times a year like it used to be, but it’s still there.”
