Stand Up for the National Game

The Capitals threw everything they had at the Bruins last night, in front of a national audience on Versus.  There were two fights in the 10-2 drubbing by the Caps, both involving Donald Brashear.

In the first period Brash took on Zdeno Chara.  After a decent square off, Chara got off a couple of punches before they quickly hit the ice.

The main event came during the second period.  Nicklas Backstrom put the Caps up by five.  Off of the ensuing faceoff Shawn Thornton took on Brashear.  The two opened up, and landed a good number of punches in a great bout.

A few minutes after getting out of the penalty box from the Thornton fight, Brash scored his fifth goal of the season.

Two fights and 10 goals for the home team lead to a lot of time for the crowd to be on their feet.

A goal for you, too

Jody Shelley scored his first goal of the season last night against the Habs.

Avery could play elsewhere next season

Sean Avery has broken off contract talks with the Rangers:

“I don’t think the value of what I’m worth has changed from the start of the season to right now,” Avery said. “I certainly love playing for the Rangers, no question about it. I’d say that window (of signing a long-term deal with the team) is probably not as open as it has been in the past.”
