Rick Tocchet Brought to Pittsburgh to Change Culture

Tocchet still adds toughness, only now it’s to the coaching staff

Tocchet, who spent 150 of his 1,144 NHL games with the Penguins and won a Stanley Cup with the team in 1992, was known as one of the toughest players of his generation. He scored goals, played on the power play and dropped the gloves to support a teammate.

He is one of only five players in league history to record 400-plus goals and more than 2,000 penalty minutes and ranks 10th all-time in PIM with 2,972 minutes. That resume made him the perfect fit for a new Penguins’ coaching staff that has been tasked with spearheading a culture change.
