Parker Parts Ways With Avs
After two separate stints with “The Sheriff” on their roster, the Colorado Avalanche have reportedly cut ties with longtime enforcer Scott Parker for “insubordination” after Parker failed to report to the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL, where he was assigned after clearing waivers last month:
In a rare conflict between the team and one of its own players, the Avalanche has terminated the contract of former enforcer Scott Parker for insubordination.
Parker, who played for the Avalanche for parts of six seasons, refused to report to the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League after being demoted Oct. 17. Parker had concussion symptoms at the time and wasn’t able to play, but later refused assignment to the Monsters outright.
“He is no longer a member of our organization,” Avalanche vice president Jean Martineau said.
Orr battles Stortini
Monday’s lone fight featured Colton Orr in a cross-conference battle against Zack Stortini in Oilers–Rangers. The two were pretty active early on in the bout until Stortini decided to utilize his usual style, which locked out both guys for the remainder of the contest.
Kostopoulous gets three
Tom Kostopoulos was suspended for three games by the NHL today for his hit on Mike Van Ryn, who will be out of action for at least a month after suffering a concussion, broken nose, and broken finger due to his body ramming into the glass. Kostopoulos, who isn’t known for questionable checks, has stated that he meant Van Ryn no harm.
