Things between division rivals can get pretty heated sometimes.

It was a busy night in San Jose as the Sharks and Ducks put forth a six-fight effort. As a fight fan, the game featured everything you look for. The heavyweights kicked things off, the light heavys followed and the middleweights dueled as well. A pair of simultaneous bouts also took place. Aaron Voros and Scott Nichol each picked up two fighting majors a piece.

An eventful Saturday also saw one heck of a tussle between Zenon Konopka and Dan Carcillo, with both players landing their fair share of shots in a marathon scrap. While it might not garner a “fight of the year” nomination, it could easily be the best bout of the new season thus far. Konopka and Carcillo hooked up later for round two, which wasn’t as competitive but nearly just as long.

Friday was highlighted by the continued rise of Deryk Engelland, who is piecing together a memorable campaign. Engelland got the better of Jody Shelley, a win that is now coupled with his TKO of Colton Orr earlier this month.

Speaking of Orr, he donned pink skates Saturday in support of the NHL’s “Hockey Fights Cancer” campaign for the month of October. It’s believed to the first time that a player has done so.
