Music City Melee

Things became testy early on in Tuesday night’s contest between the Canucks and Predators. Rob Davison leveled Scott Nichol with a hit near the Vancouver bench, sparking a scrum that saw Jason Jaffray and Rich Peverley stray away from the pile in order to slug it out.

The rough stuff continued in the second when Alexandre Burrows laid a high hit on JP Dumont. Burrows was momentarily allowed to skate up ice until Nashville captain Jason Arnott grabbed and pounded Burrows. Players quickly started piling in and Arnott eventually found himself locking horns with Shane O’Brien, but the officials were right there to prevent anything from happening. Shea Weber found himself in a similar situation later in the period after defending himself following a hit from behind courtesy of Ryan Kesler, but didn’t receive a fighting major.

Other action also saw Riley Cote try his hand against Mitch Fritz in a scrap that saw both fighters headed back to their respective dressing rooms for repairs and Ian Laperriere tangling with John Zeiler in the first period of KingsAvs.

Belak finds fresh opponent in Janssen

Monday night’s featured bout saw a heavyweight battle between Wade Belak and Cam Janssen during the first period of PredatorsBlues. The fight was decent, and was the fourth time the two have clashed, but was more notable since it was the first time this year that Belak had dropped the gloves with someone not named Derek Boogaard.

A pair of uneventful battles rounded out the evening: Chris Neil and Tanner Glass danced in a short one and Nate Thompson won a decision over Ryan Hollweg in response to a Hollweg hit on Mark Streit early on in IslesLeafs.
