Montador Sparks Ducks Over Blues
After a quick Ducks’ lead was knotted up by the Blues in the first period of their game on Wednesday night, Steve Montador found a familiar opponent in Cam Janssen, and the two exchanged blows in a decent scrap. It was the fourth career fight between the two and while Montador has now yet to win a decision over Janssen, Anaheim went on to score three goals in the second frame and won 5-2.
Fighting Friends
Jon Mirasty and Jeremy Yablonski might be the best of friends off the ice, but during the course of a game, their bond is outweighed by the jobs the two are required of as the respective enforcers of the Syracuse Crunch and Binghamton Senators. Since Mirasty’s debut in the AHL last season, they’ve fought three times (Dec 14, 2007; Feb 15, 2007; Apr 2, 2008) and every bout has been an instant classic, likely because of their love to throw punches:
“It’s what we love to do,” Yablonski said, explaining how two friends can trade blows as viciously as he and Mirasty have done.
“We both have pride in it. And at the same time, we might be cousins, really good friends, but we want to knock each other’s teeth out. That’s just the way it is. When we go out there, our loyalty’s to the jersey we wear, and that’s our job. We both love our jobs. Friend or foe, we’re going to go out there and do it.”
And on three separate occasions last season, they did just that. The man they call “Yabo,” and the one nicknamed “Nasty Mirasty.” Two heavyweights at the heart of a physical rivalry between these Interstate-81 foes, Syracuse and Binghamton, teams that will meet again Friday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
“They were unbelievable fights, all three of them,” B-Sens center Josh Hennessy said recently. “I’d always tell my friends in the summertime they have to go on YouTube and check them out.”
