Introductions
No reruns last night. Outside of Zack Stortini taking on Derek Boogaard, I don’t think anyone was predicting any of the other bouts. Patrick Thoresen took on Branko Radivojevic earlier in the Oilers–Wild game. It was Radio’s first fight since the Sens-Flyers brawl on Mar 05, 2004 (another on the soon-to-be-added video list).
Dennis Wideman had a spirited scrap with Guillaume Latendresse earlier in the night. It was the first NHL fighting major for the budding Habs winger.
Latendresse wasn’t alone as David Backes also picked up his first NHL fighting major when he dropped the gloves with Keith Ballard. During the NHL lockout I saw Backes play for Mankato a few times and he definitely has potential. The second round pick fits in well with the young Blues team.

More Tie
Earlier in the day this story broke: Hockey league president says no action planned against Tie Domi
Later in the day this release came out:
Tie Domi wishes to issue the following statement through his counsel, Symon Zucker
TORONTO, April 3 /CNW/ – Tie Domi attended his son’s hockey game as a father and spectator. While he and Mr. Miller had a disagreement over Mr. Miller’s coaching skills, the suggestion of an assault or threatened assault is false and misleading. The police subsequently investigated that allegation and found that it had no substance. Mr. Miller was dissatisfied with that outcome and decided to report his allegations to the media with the intent of embarrassing Mr. Domi.
Mr. Domi has instructed counsel to put Mr. Miller on notice of an intention to seek damages for libel and slander. Mr. Miller’s public campaign to discredit Mr. Domi is actionable and will be strenuously defended.
In February Domi filed a defamation lawsuit against radio DJ John Derringer.

Michael Mills has a website hockeyfightincanada.com. He sells shirts and a couple of other things there. CBC has decided he’s infringing on their Hockey Night in Canada trademark. It led to press, at least for now.
