Garden State Fizzle
Fireworks were expected during last night’s Dallas Stars–New Jersey Devils game. It wasn’t entirely a snore, but if you kept your eye on Sean Avery, and expected to see David Clarkson, Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond or even Martin Brodeur go after him, you didn’t see a thing. Clarkson was obviously attempting to get the Stars’ agitator to drop the gloves a few times, but Avery wasn’t interested. Maybe he should have been, because the Stars needed something to breathe life into the team, which wound up losing 5-0. The Stars did stay in Manhattan instead of Jersey since defeating the New York Rangers on Monday. Maybe Avery showed the team around a little too much. Hey, it’s not like you can see the stars in Jersey anyway.
The Devils mentioned above certainly skated away satisfied. Clarkson scored, and Letourneau-Leblond had an assist on it, his first NHL point. Another shutout for Brodeur put him closer on the all-time list to Patrick Roy.
There was one fight in the game, BJ Crombeen took on Bryce Salvador after Crombeen was pinballed into him from a James Neal hit on Paul Martin.
There were a pair of fights in the Edmonton Oilers–Chicago Blackhawks game. Matt Walker went with Zack Stortini and Ladislav Smid fought Colin Fraser.
Matt Barnaby on ESPN
After having a local show in Buffalo with former teammate Rob Ray, Matt Barnaby has started to fit into Barry Melrose’s former role at ESPN nicely. Here’s video of him and EJ Hradek talking about today’s hot topics. As smooth as a transition as it’s been, sounds more like Darren Pang than Melrose, but maybe that’s just me. Good job so far MB.
Billy Tibbetts Stateside?
The new single-A league EPHL has relased their training camp roster list and Billy Tibbetts is reportedly trying out for the Danbury Mad Hatters.
Tibbetts is known for his off-ice problems just as much as his play. He most recently led police on a high speed chase in 2007, before being arrested.
Tibbetts last played a game in the NHL in 2002-03 with the New York Rangers. He has spent parts of the last two seasons with teams in Finland and Switzerland.
