Dropping The Gloves Episode 269: Trades, Signings, and Buyouts, Oh My!

Welcome back to another week of the Dropping The Gloves podcast with John Scott and his co-host Tim Wirzburger! It’s a wild time in the National Hockey League right now, with free agency right around the corner. There’s plenty of big names still on the market, like Dougie Hamilton (Carolina Hurricanes), Gabriel Landeskog (Colorado Avalanche) and Blake Coleman (Tampa Bay Lightning), to name a few.

However, before we get to that, we’ve got to discuss what went on over the weekend. There were a few eyecatching trades, especially in Philadelphia, who hit their reset button, trading away Jakub Voracek, Shayne Gostisbehere and Robert Hagg. In return, Cam Atkinson and Rasmus Ristolainen will be putting on Flyers colours next season. Let’s hear from you Flyers fans; how do you feel about those deals and your team heading into next season?

Another big name that got moved was Seth Jones to the Chicago Blackhawks in a blockbuster deal. Adam Boqvist, 2021 1st-Round Pick, 2021 2nd-Round Pick, and 2022 1st-Round Pick all went back to Columbus in return. The Blackhawks also received a 2021 1st-round pick and a 2022 6th-round pick. Jones also signed a new deal for eight years with an AAV of $9.5 million. Many are questioning the deal, and Jones had a poor year analytically. Follow us on Twitter a let us know what you think!

Check out the rest of episode 269 to hear more about some of the deals that went down!
