Crosby, Pens Go Down Swinging
Down four goals in the second period, the Penguins decided to fight back against the Stars, literally.
Sidney Crosby dropped the gloves and did well against Matt Niskanen. It was Crosby’s first fight of the season and if he’s willing to do more of the same as Pittsburgh’s captain, it won’t be his last.
They were preceded by Kris Letang and Brendan Morrow, who exchanged some pretty hard stick swings before deciding to scrap. Jamie Benn fought twice, tangling with Tyler Kennedy and Chris Kunitz.
Crosby overshadowed the efforts of Colton Orr, who bounced back with a solid win over D.J. King. An ever-active Zenon Konopka, who led the NHL in fights last season, continues to find opponents this year as well. He danced with Jay Harrison for his league-leading seventh fighting major.
In all, Wednesday produced a total of nine bouts. A fairly busy weeknight.
