Captains Battle Out West
In one of the rare instances in which an instigator was handed out so far this season, Brenden Morrow challenged Dustin Brown following a hit on Mike Ribeiro late in the third period of Stars–Kings. The two captains exchanged blows in an even, non-active tilt while trainers attended to a bloodied Ribeiro. Morrow was given an instigator and a one-game suspension is possible, but could be rescinded since it was obviously not planned.
Tuesday’s other bout saw Francis Bouillon go after Jarkko Ruutu after Ruutu elbowed Maxim Lapierre in the face during the second period of Sens–Habs. A scrum ensued during the fight but nothing else came of it, and Ruutu could now be looking at a suspension for his actions.
Oilers snatch Boulerice off waivers
With Steve MacIntyre out of action for at least the next month with a broken orbital bone, the Oilers went out and grabbed Jesse Boulerice off of waivers today.
Twelve games into his tryout with Lake Erie of the AHL this season, the Avalanche decided to sign Boulerice to a two-way deal over the weekend, and had to put him through waivers in the process for a chance to recall him from their minor league affiliate when the opportunity arose. Unfortunately for Colorado, Edmonton jumped at the chance and picked Boulerice up as a temporary replacement enforcer before he could make it back down to the AHL.
