Last night’s affair between the Sharks and Ducks heated up relatively quickly as three fights took place during the first period. Brad Staubitz found an opponent for his first NHL regular season fight in Nathan McIver just five minutes into the game. Jody Shelley took on George Parros later on in the opening frame and Joe Thornton found himself in a surprising scrap against Steve Montador moments later.

Darcy Hordichuk and Andrew Peters also exchanged blows in an entertaining heavyweight bout in Canucks–Sabres. Rounding out the night was a battle between Jamal Mayers and Marc Staal and a short tussle involving Jerred Smithson and Alexandre Picard. A total of six fights on the night in all.
