Burnett Fights On

“It’s been a nightmare,” says his father Bob, who with his wife Vicci and daughter Andrea have kept a constant vigil by Garrett’s side. “When they brought him in he was, for all intents and purposes, dead. I think through his sheer mass he dragged enough energy out of his body to bring himself back.”

The Burnetts, for their part, have watched their son move from intensive care to critical care where he’s started his rehabilitation. They’ve also learned to measure his progress by a different standard and rejoice in the slightest sign of progress. Bob and Vicci Burnett were by Garrett’s bedside when he moved his head for the first time. A few days later, he flexed his hands.
