Bruins Quick Goals Create Sparks With Flyers

There was a full slate of games yesterday in the NHL, but it was the lone afternoon game that had the most action. The Bruins scored fast and easy on the Flyers. By the time the second fight of the first period occurred, Boston was up 4-0.

A little over two minutes into the game, with the Bruins already up 1-0, Jody Shelley lined up versus Zdeno Chara and gave him a shove. It seemed unlikely Chara would accept the challenge, but he did and used his pteranodon-like wingspan to keep Shelley at bay, landing a few punches before wrestling him down.

With the score at 4-0, still in the first, Scott Hartnell made a beeline for Brad Marchand, wiping him out. Johnny Boychuk stepped in, taking on Hartnell and picking up the instigator.

Late in the second Milan Lucic crushed Zac Rinaldo along the boards. A big scrum ensued, with Wayne Simmonds trying to get at Lucic. Rinaldo, not hurt on the play, wound up pairing up with Nathan Horton, landing a number of shots once he got his arm free.

As for Lucic's hit on Rinaldo, Lucic had this to say:

“I felt like I made every effort to take him out laterally,” Lucic said. “I looked at the video and slow-mo’ed it and looked at the point of contact. There was no numbers. It was all shoulders. You could see his body rotating because I took him from the right side.”

Lucic and Coach Claude Julien don't expect a suspension, but the NHL has been trigger-happy this season.
