Broadway vs Broad Street
The Rangers and Flyers picked up right where they left off after last season, keeping a rivalry full of fights and bad blood alive and well.
Words, shoves and mean mugs were exchanged pre-game between players and as expected, the heavyweights went early. Derek Boogaard had an edge in activity over Jody Shelley. It was the sixth time the two have danced since Boogaard came into the league and the first time since both moved east. Brandon Prust and Daniel Carcillo tangled later in the game.
Sharks–Blues produced a pair of scraps as well. Jamal Mayers and Brad Winchester traded blows in a short, but fun bout. A battle between youngsters Logan Couture and Alex Pietrangelo followed as a result of a highly questionable Joe Thornton hit that NHL officials most certainly will look at.
Six fights took place in all on Thursday.
