A Q & A With Doug Murray

You were ranked the 16th smartest athlete by the Sporting News. Anaheim Ducks’ George Parros was fourth. What’s your take?

[Laughing] I guess Georgie is smarter than me. We had a good laugh about it after.

George told me you guys know each other from back in the day?

We used to compete in chess club. [Laughing]

I said the same thing and he didn’t take it too well.

[Laughing] No, we played against each other some junior games, but also from high school. We were the same year, he ended up in Princeton, so we played against each other for several years. I don’t remember the first time we met, but we had a mutual respect from the beginning and started to get to know each other better one summer when we trained together in Southern California
