A Night of Variety

The usual heavyweight bout didn't take place on Saturday, but an interesting mix of other scraps did.

Kyle Clifford notched an impressive win over Brad Staubitz during Wild–Kings, scoring with lefts and rights before knocking Staubitz down. They were followed by a battle between Eric Nystrom and Wayne Simmonds.

John Tavares participated in his first NHL bout, as did his opponent, fellow youngster Alexander Burmistrov. There was even a Red Wings fight as Jonathan Ericsson grappled with David Clarkson.

In all, eight fights took place as well as another on Friday.
