A Night of Firsts

It took him a couple of games, and a couple of trips between Long Island and Bridgeport, but Joel Rechlicz found himself an opponent for his first NHL fight. “Wrecker” took on Tom Kostopoulos during the second period of Thursday’s Isles–Habs game and pulled away in the fight after a wild initial exchange. The two were followed by Tim Jackman and Greg Stewart, who danced seven seconds into the third.

A night of firsts also followed for Brandon Prust, who got into his first two fights as a Coyote and dropped the gloves for the first time since he had his jaw broken back in December courtesy of a Cam Janssen hit. During Phoenix’s loss to the Devils, Prust exchanged punches in an even bout with Bryce Salvador and then tangled with David Clarkson later on.

Also requiring a mention is John Scott, who took part in his first NHL scrap (regular season) against Cody McCormick in Wild–Avs. Last night’s eight total scraps also included an anticipated bout between Chris Neil and Milan Lucic and a heavyweight clash between Jody Shelley and the aforementioned Janssen.
