A Good Way to Start the Weekend

The Hawks and Ducks lit it up last night.  David Koci and well, anyone on the Ducks, makes for a good matchup.

Koci found George Parros in the first period.  Towards the end of a game, after a scrum and some roughing penalties, Koci was lined up against Sean O’Donnell.  The two couldn’t even wait for the puck to be dropped before tossing the mitts.  It’s been a while since I’ve seen that.  A note on the penalties of the scrum, and then the fight: while they’re in the game summary/boxscore at the same time, the events were completely separate.  That’s why those extra penalties aren’t listed with the fight comments.

The other two fights in the game: Chris Kunitz got tired of Tuomo Ruutu‘s play and jumped him.  Kunitz picked up the full package: instigator, misconduct and a gamer to go along with his fighting major.  Ruutu was given a high sticking, no fighting major.  Also, Danny Richmond dropped the gloves with Ryan Getzlaf early in the third in a short bout.

In the end, the Hawks were beat in quite a few ways.  The final score was 5-2 in favor of the Ducks.

The other two fights of the night were both heavyweight matchups.  Colton Orr traded punches with Eric Boulton and Andrew Peters took on Andre Roy.  Roy really seems comfortable in Tampa above all other cities, at least on the ice.

With majors tonight, Peters and The Stache moved ahead on the FM leaderboard.  They’re currently tied for first.  They were both tied with Ian Laperriere going into last night.

Q: At the trade deadline, the Penguins added some toughness and leadership with Georges Laraque and Gary Roberts. How has that changed the dynamic of your team?

A: Laraque’s a big man. He’s a force out there. Honestly, ever since he came here, things have settled down a bit. For players like Evgeni, it really helps, I think. It was a great move by our staff. Gary is an amazing hockey player. He works so hard. For him to be 40 and still playing is amazing. He knows what he’s doing out there, so that really helps our young guys. With his experience, it’s a great addition for us, and hopefully we can feed off of his great work ethic.

Weekend updates:

I’m taking a mini-trip.  I’ll have some email access, but I won’t be able to update any videos until Sunday evening/night.  The downloads from last night will also be added then.
