A Case of the Tuesdays

With only one game last night, and one involving the Red Wings, there’s nothing much to report from that.  Although, the Wings getting spanked 6-1 by the league-worst Flyers made a few people smile I’m sure.  Todd Fedoruk picked up his third goal of the season so far.  The Fridge has 10 points in 30 games with the Flyers this season.

Since the last couple of days were light I added the PJ Stock–Stephen Peat trilogy to the new fight pages.

Also added a Gary Roberts-Rick Tocchet bout and a couple of AHL scraps.  Links are all on the videos page.

Newbury shrugs off ‘accident’

Newbury rode a stationary bike yesterday and is waiting for the team’s medical staff to clear him for skating “after a couple of days off.” He said when he does return to game action, he won’t hesitate to drop the gloves and fight again.

“It’s part of my game. It’s been that way since I was 14, 15,” he said. “That’s what’s got me to this level and it’s what’s going to keep me here. Anything I have to do to help the team win hockey games, I’ll do.”

“It’s part of my game and what I get paid for. I think (fighting) belongs in the game. It’s just a freak accident that happens once in a while and we move on.”

Coyotes deal Nagy for draft pick

More trades, most likely involving other impending unrestricted free agents and/or playoff-tested veterans such as Owen Nolan, Curtis Joseph, Nick Boynton, Kevyn Adams and/or Georges Laraque, may follow before the deadline.

Could BGL wind up in Pittsburgh as Sidney’s bodyguard?  If the Pens do make a trade for a player to fill that role, they’re going to want someone to keep up with play.  With 20 points in 52 games this season and a rep as the champ, Laraque will get attention from any team looking to acquire some toughness.

The Capitals re-signed Donald Brashear yesterday.  Eric McErlain spoke with Brash about his role on the team and his time in Washington so far.
