Oct 09, 2002 3pd 16:19 Matt Barnaby @CAR Rod Brind'Amour
Comments: After Rod scores, Kasparitis takes issue with something in front. Out of the scrum comes Barnaby and Brind'Amour. Barnaby throwing the rights, as is Rod. Matt lands 2 good rights, then they each struggle for position. Rob lands one good right. Struggling again and Brind'Amour is holding both wrists. Barnaby gets loose and lands a big right. Brind'Amour has had enough and starts looking for the takedown. Barnaby starts to land good and the refs jump in. Other Penalties: Sylvain Lefebvre and Bates Battaglia each received a roughing; Barnaby an instigator and misconduct.

Oct 12, 2002 3pd 01:39 Krzysztof Oliwa @PIT Steve McKenna
Comments: Oliwa just misses a big check on Pushor. McKenna comes over they drop em. Oliwa misses a right, McKenna is trying to get his forearm pad free and grazes Oliwas cheek with a right. Oliwa comes up short with a right, McKenna the same. Oliwa misses badly with 3 rights while McKenna is hunched over, still trying to get free from his arm/elbow pad, then throws a right that hits Oliwa's shoulder. Oliwa hits McKenna in the back of the head with a right. Some wrestling and then Oliwa throws a right over an already falling McKenna and goes flying over McKenna's back. Oliwa had a decent gash on his left cheek either from the McKenna right or more likely his elbow pad.

Oct 12, 2002 3pd 10:25 Ron Petrovicky @PIT Dan LaCouture
Comments: Lacouture runs over Petrovicky, then shoves him while he's down and eggs him on. They both drop the gloves. Petrovicky lands a decent right to Dan's temple snapping his head. They both throw with Petro's right grazing/missin and Dan's left an ok shot to the mouth. Lacouture pushes Petro to the boards, while Petro has him in a headlock. Dan slips out and is now beside Petrovicky, who ducks under a left. Lacouture lands a left push-punch and Petro is halfway in the Pens' bench. He throws another left to Petro's temple, who his now facing the Pens' bench. He throws another soft left to Petro's ear, who throws a right to Dan's ear. Lacouture goes for the take down, and slips and pulls Petrovicky down on him.

Comments: The two come together in the Rangers zone, shortly after a Tampa goal. They tie up quickly, Dingman going for the complete hug right away. Purinton throws 2 big rights and one small one, all missing or just grazing Dingman who is in real tight. Dinger goes for the takedown and gets it.

Oct 25, 2002 2pd 07:24 Ron Petrovicky LOS Ian Laperriere
Comments: Fight starts off with Lappy throwing three rights, then Petrovicky answers back with two rights. Can't tell if any landed since the camera wasn't zoomed in. As it zooms in, they continue to trade rights with Lappy landing one to the side of the head. Lappy starts pushing Petrovicky back while trying to land rights. Petrovicky tries to to throw a couple rights in response, but once his back hits the boards, he tries to get a headlock on. Both continue to try throwing the rights until they are broken up.

Oct 28, 2002 1pd 02:45 Krzysztof Oliwa PHO Andrei Nazarov
Comments: First shift for both players and they drop them off the faceoff. No square off because Oliwa dives right in and throws a bomb that connects, but brushes off. Nazarov also landed a little right when he dove in and a follow up left. They hold each other and Oliwa is trying to get loose. He does and he throws a bomb that misses and he goes off balance and starts falling. Naz doesn't throw any more.

Oct 30, 2002 1pd 09:51 Sandy McCarthy @TAM Andre Roy
Comments: They drop the gloves really close to the boards and are in close. Roy seems angry and keeps throwing, even though every shot hits the back of McCarthy's helmet. Eventually McCarthy falls becasue he is against the boards and Roy is throwing them one after another. Other Penalties: Roy received a holding, instigator and misconduct.

Nov 03, 2002 1pd 08:29 Dale Purinton STL Reed Low
Comments: Moments after a Messier goal these two drop em. Some flashes by the camera angles to get there, but you can tell they've basically been grappling. Purinton seems to have a bit more control and throws a couple of big rights that hit Low, but not squarely. Low gets in a weak shot of his own. Low's trying real hard to get his hands free, but Purinton's got him locked up pretty well. Purinton gets in another blah shot. Low swings, misses and falls. Purinton falls on top of him giving him a punch as they go down.

Nov 09, 2002 2pd 10:53 Matt Barnaby @CBJ Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre
Comments: Decent fight. GP is more active and Barnaby doesn't do all the showboating he often does. Barnaby looks to be out of his league as JLGP just throws and lands more. No damage done and JLGP is gassed and just skates away. Other Penalties: JLGP received a slashing.

Nov 09, 2002 3pd 20:00 Krzysztof Oliwa @CBJ Grant Marshall
Comments: Oliwa butt-ends Marshall and crosschecks him on the side of the head. Marshall and Oliwa go with each landing a nice right. They engage in a pretty spirited bout, but the MSG camera losses them and doesn't return till it appears that Marshall has control of the fight. Other Penalties: Oliwa received a cross checking, instigator and game misconduct; Matt Barnaby and Derrick Walser received misconducts.

Nov 09, 2002 3pd 20:00 Sandy McCarthy @CBJ Tyler Wright
Comments: Wright didn't want anything to do with McCarthy. He took a couple shots, not much, but enough to bloody his mouth. Wright got a little yappy and much more willing once the linesmen got in between them when nothing could get going.Other Penalties: McCarthy received an instigator, misconduct and game misconduct; Wright a misconduct.

Nov 11, 2002 2pd 14:01 Matt Barnaby @SAN Todd Harvey
Comments: Todd Harvey is looking for someone to fight right off the faceoff and Barnaby looks willing as he's yapping away. Well, turns out Barnaby wants no part of this one and he lets Harvey swing away with eight or nine punches that may of landed before the linesmen stepped in. Barnaby kept his gloves on during this whole time. Other Penalties: Harvey received an instigator, misconduct and game misconduct. Matt Barnaby did not receive a fighting major.

Nov 16, 2002 2pd 16:41 Sandy McCarthy @VAN Darren Langdon
Comments: Long square off. Langdon grabs on to McCarthy and they hug for quite a while. They each try throwing a few punches, can't get much going and nothing seems to connect. After about a minute of this Langdon tries a few rights, McCarthy a couple of lefts. Sandy may have landed one or two of his lefts, but no real damage done. Fight ends as Sandy gets out of his jersey and the linesman jump in.

Nov 19, 2002 1pd 13:56 Dale Purinton ANA Mike Brown
Comments: Starts off in the corner with Mike Brown instigating it. Brown seems to be trying to get inside and tie up Purinton who is throwing the rights. Purinton appears to land about 2 of 5 cleanly to the side of Brown's head/helmet while Brown pushes him up against the boards. Brown lands on top of Purinton. Other Penalties: Brown received a roughing.

Nov 21, 2002 1pd 05:15 Matt Barnaby @NJD Mike Danton
Comments: Danton slashes Barnaby and a few seconds later the two are face to face and Barnaby challanges him. Danton obliges and away go the gloves. Danton comes out swinging, but isn't landing a thing. He rips Barnaby's helmet off, but still isn't landing anything as Barnaby is just letting him tire himself out. Barnaby decides to throw a few finally, but he, like Danton, can't land a thing. Every punch in this fight was coming up short. They finally do exchange a few noggies and after an eternity of nothing, the linesmen come in and break it up. Danton was way more active in this fight easily throwing double the punches Barnaby did, too bad nothing was connecting.

Dec 14, 2002 2pd 09:54 Ron Petrovicky @TOR Tom Fitzgerald
Comments: Petrovicky knocks Fitzgerald down along the boards. When he gets up, they each exchange facewashes and off come the gloves as they start off in tight. After some grappling, they each get in some punches to the side of the head. Petro throws some decent punches, maybe 1 or 2 landed, and then he gets the takedown.

Dec 19, 2002 1pd 15:06 Gordie Dwyer MON Sylvain Blouin
Comments: Dwyer puts a hit on someone and Blouin steps in. Blouin lands a quick one to start and they tie up. Despite the fact that they were in close, with a good grip on each other, this was somewhat entertaining. Both men tossed each other around, with each landing a few in close. Dwyer loses his helmet and they land a few more apiece.

Dec 26, 2002 2pd 13:36 Matt Barnaby PIT Andrew Ference
Comments: This one started right off the faceoff after Ference got out of the box for a dustup with Lindros. Ference actually drops the gloves first expecting Barnaby to seek the revenge. They grab on strong to each other's rights and lock each other out. Both try to throw multiple rights, but can't reach. Barnaby starts to release the left and jab, but Ference does a nice job of throwing a right immediately, causing Barnaby to grab on again. Nothing of significance is landing. Andy then pins Barnaby against the boards and the refs look to jump in while Barnaby yaps "No!" as usual. Ference looks like he'd be content to end it here, but Barnaby spins off the boards and starts throwing the lefts. Ference responds with the rights. Both land grazing shots and tie up again. The linesmen jump in to end this.
Voted winner: Matt Barnaby (81.8%) - Voted rating: 4.8

Dec 29, 2002 3pd 18:48 Sandy McCarthy @TAM Chris Dingman
Comments: In the middle of the third period, Dingman went after Barnaby, who had been yapping the entire game. Barnaby turtled and Dingman may have landed three, no more. Dingman got a double minor for roughing. Then, late in the game, Dingman gets out of the box, and when Holik is whistled down for cross-checking, Dingman hooks a passing McCarthy. McCarthy turns around Dingman drops them as the linesman intervenes. He turned to McCarthy who agreed to shed the gloves and the linesman promptly leaves. These guys have a brief square off then join together. An early left by Dingman comes up short and he gets really close in with Mac and holds on. Mac then lands two overhand lefts to the helmet and Dingman pushes him forward (looks like he was all ready for the takedown), but Sandy stays up and they jockey for position. Sandy looks to come up short with another left. Dingman is only interested in holding on in this fight. Sandy then drags out the right hand and shakes his elbow pad off and lands two noogie shots and gets the takedown. Other Penalties: Bobby Holik received an obstruction interference.

Dec 31, 2002 1pd 02:18 Gordie Dwyer @CAR Jesse Boulerice
Comments: After a series of big hits early in the first period, a stoppage brings pushing and shoving. Dwyer breaks free from the ref and does an end-around to get to Boulerice. Dwyer drops the gloves and begins throwing rights and grabs Boulerice who's caught somewhat off-guard. To his credit Boulerice drops his gloves and begins to respond with rights, and gets Dwyer's helmet off. Lots of slipping and sliding, wild punches, and wrestling. Each player lands a couple of punches without any damage. Entertaining, wild scrap.Other Penalties: Joel Bouchard received an obstruction hooking; Dwyer an instigator and misconduct.

Other Penalties: Andreas Salomonsson and Tom Poti each received a high sticking; Radek Dvorak a holding the stick.

Jan 06, 2003 2pd 05:16 Matt Barnaby OTT Zdeno Chara
Comments: Barnaby wanted to go with Chara and Chara accepts willingly. They have a nice squareoff, then Barnaby dives in with rabbit punches that may have landed. Chara then throws some rights that may have landed. They start swinging around the ice like a merry-go-round and Chara lands a couple of punches before finally losing his balance and falling on Barnaby.

Jan 09, 2003 2pd 12:45 Gordie Dwyer @MON Stephane Quintal
Comments: They rough it up along the boards and then after some glove wiggling and skating they drop them. Quintal gets the better grip and uses his reach to sort of lock out Dwyer and he quickly lands a nice right to the side of Gordie's face. Dwyer pulls in and they twist and turn a bit. Jerseys get stretched as they try to assert themselves. Both guys switch hands a couple of times, but it's hard to tell what is landing. Lasts around 25-30 seconds and it was fairly entertaining.

Comments: Domi roughs up Malakhov at the blueline, Barnaby comes over and gets in his face. They throw down and Domi has him spinning early. Throws 1-3 shots, nothing much going on, Barnaby landed none and then falls. Domi hits him once or twice while he was down.

Jan 23, 2003 2pd 02:03 Gordie Dwyer @NAS Reid Simpson
Comments: Dwyer lays a vicious check on Denis Arkhipov. Simpson immediately goes after Gordie. They come together and Dwyer ties Simpson up. Reid finally gets his right free and lands three good rights to the side of Dwyer's face. Simpson loses his balance and Dwyer takes him down to the ice. Dwyer had a nice mouse under his right eye and was dabbing at a cut on the bridge of his nose while in the box.

Jan 26, 2003 1pd 00:51 Bobby Holik @WAS Jeff Halpern
Comments: Holik gets an elbow up on Halpern. Scrum by the benches is going on. It appears Halpern assumes nothing was being called, and starts throwing punches at Holik. About three punches, and Holik does nothing. Mironov comes in with gloves off, and is tossed for third man in, even though he didn't fight. Halpern got the extra penalty (unsportsmanlike) for getting an instigator with his shield on. Other Penalties: Boris Mironov a roughing and game misconduct; Holik an elbowing; Halpern an unsportsmanlike conduct, instigator and misconduct. Bobby Holik did not receive a fighting major.

Comments: Doig touches up for the icing, but Barnaby gives him an extra shove. The fight was a hugfest with short punches doing nothing, Barnaby landed more of them. Barnaby Was crazy. The whole time he was screaming and laughing at Holik and telling the refs to back off.

Jan 28, 2003 3pd 16:43 Dale Purinton @ATL Chris Tamer
Comments: After a shot on the Atlanta net and the Rangers losing badly, Purinton takes an extra poke at the goaltender. Tamer skates over to move Purinton away, but Purinton just drops the gloves and starts pounding away. He throws four or five punches, mostly to the back of Tamer's head as he tried to get away. The refs are immediately breaking it up, as Tamer was not fighting back. Other Penalties: Purinton received an instigator, misconduct and game misconduct; Tamer a roughing. Chris Tamer did not receive a fighting major.

Feb 06, 2003 1pd 02:47 Ron Petrovicky @STL Bryce Salvador
Comments: After a Petrovicky hit in center ice, Salvador comes over and challenges him. Down go the gloves and away they go. Its all Salvador in this one, firing the rights. After the second one, he rips Petro's lid off and starts raining the rights again. Most are missing as Petro is bent away trying to avoid them, but more then one connects to the side of the head. Petro throws the occasional right, but lands nothing. Its all Bryce including the takedown as a right by Petro misses, and down they go.

Feb 21, 2003 3pd 19:09 Dale Purinton @ANA Marc Chouinard
Comments: Chouinard followes Dale up the ice after a big hit and challenges him. Dale accepts, and off come the mits. Purinton immediatley takes control of this fight, getting Chouinard off-balance, then getting the jersey over the head. Dale is throwing haymakers, looks to land two or three in the form of uppercuts. Chouinard is on the defensive the entire fight as Dale switches to the left at the end and grazes him with a couple of more hooks, then looks to punch/push Chouinard violently to the ice with Dale on top. Other Penalties: Chouinard received a cross checking and game misconduct.

Mar 01, 2003 2pd 02:10 Matt Barnaby FLA Peter Worrell
Comments: The incident starts with Tetarenko dropping the gloves with Barnaby who immediately turtles. Tetarenko gets in one punch before the refs pull him away. Meanwhile, Lindros, Worrell and others start to scrum and Barnaby goes over to challenge Worrell. They both drop the gloves and get in close immediately. Barnaby throws a weak right, then Worrell connects with a decent right of his own. From here on, Barnaby is just trying not to get pummelled. Worrell tries to come over the top with some punches, but Barnaby does a good job of dodging them. Eventually Worrell connects with some weak shots, but no damage done. Other Penalites: Tetarenko recieved a double minor for roughing.

Comments: Fight is in the Rangers' zone. Gloves come off and they are in close. Brashear starts with the lefts, throwing 3 or 4 to the side of the helmet and face. Purinton then responds with 5 lefts of his own with a couple landing pretty good. Purinton then gets another left knocking Brashear's helmet back. They both stay in close and exchange a few more shots to the side of each other's helmets before Purinton gets the takedown.

Mar 10, 2003 2pd 16:18 Dale Purinton FLA Darcy Hordichuk
Comments: Fast start (what else is new for a Hordi fight?) as each grabs on and starts chucking. Dale lands a big right early, but Darcy isn't fazed and comes back firing the rights, landing a couple. Both start to trade toe-to-toe, then Purinton tries to get a good hold, but fails and falls down. Back up he comes and its toe-to-toe again. Not a ton landing, but it's a good one. Dale lands another big right, but Darcy answers with a couple of beauties. Finally Dale ducks, Darcy misses, and down they go with Purinton on top.

Mar 15, 2003 2pd 17:33 Dale Purinton @NJD Turner Stevenson
Comments: Earlier in the period Stevenson drops the gloves with Purinton, who just turns away. Stevenson gets 2 minutes for unsportsmanlike and looks disgusted that Purinton wouldn't go. Later, they both drop the gloves, but the camera got there very late. Purinton was trying to get his hand free from his jersey, threw a few wild punches that didn't seem to land, and then Purinton falls on top of Stevenson.

Mar 17, 2003 2pd 09:57 Matt Barnaby NYI Arron Asham
Comments: The two are talking before the faceoff and they drop em once the puck is dropped. They are over near the Isles' bench and Matt is jawing at them while Asham is swinging. A few punches that don't connect, then Barnaby decides to try to throw a few. When he opens up, Asham does the same and starts to hit him pretty good. They exchange with Asham definitely doing better, but nothing devestating. They go down with Asham on top.
