Stumpy did pretty good against McCarthy who was a monster fighter at that time.

McCarthy jabs at Brodeur and then a posse of Devils come over to get at McCarthy. Everyone pairs off when Thomas gets unlucky and has to handle Sandy McCarthy. They're near the far boards and some of the Devils are trying to intervene because the match-up was a mismatch. McCarthy looks pissed when Tommy Albelein is grabbing him from the waist. McCarthy is then able to break away from the crowd a bit starts throwing some rights at Thomas who throws 2 of his own. McCarthy then wrestles Thomas down to the ice and Thomas hits his head. A little blood is on the ice, but Thomas is okay and skates to the locker room.

Win McCarthy but major props to Steve Thomas for hanging in there and really not getting hit too badly with any punches.
