My memories of Churla was when he was on a goon line with the North Stars. He ALWAYS was instigating and looking for the fight but when the gloves came off, he often wound up the "punching bag" of the bout. God bless his courage though. Regarding this fight, Smith landed several nice blows while Churla from what I saw only got in one or two at the end. Distinct edge goes to Smith.
