If you are going to have your first NHL fight, you might as well do it while (a) playing in the playoffs, (b) blooding up your combatant, and (c) sparking your team to comeback against a highly favored opponent. Win OKPOSO.

Posted by bustsomechops on May 03, 2013 at 10:00 PM

Niskanen loses the fight, and gives the Islanders some momentum to comeback from a 3-1 deficit. That should count as 2 losses.

Posted by mygameworn on May 03, 2013 at 08:29 PM

I've never been more proud of Okposo!

Posted by bammer24 on May 04, 2013 at 02:44 AM

Okposo did a great job winning as well as the Islanders hopefully it will deflate all that ego Pittsburgh is carrying everywhere.Nobody is giving the Isles. a chance wouldn`t an upset be nice. For you guys voting Niskanen. Watch the video again.Okposo wins ! MeatPlow: You better save some of that for me !

Posted by DuaneSutter on May 04, 2013 at 10:51 AM

Almost a KO with the first punch, but ended in a bloody mess. OKPOSO with three great rights. Most blood I've seen in...ever? as the result of a fight. Changed game momentum, some more points for that too. Niskanen's punches caught shoulder pad, despite what some Pens fans might say. UPDATE: Apparently 13% of reviewers are dillusional Penguins fans!

Posted by Jobro815 on May 04, 2013 at 10:15 AM

After getting tagged twice, Niskanen was smart to hang on and try to get a few in himself, but the damage was done and Oak gave the refs his jersey with Niskanen's 'autograph' on it. Nice way to amp up the team and stick up for one of his teams leaders. Good job by Beast Mode Okposo.

Posted by playmkr278 on May 04, 2013 at 03:21 AM

Good to add that Okposo took exception to a clean hit.

Posted by ironbar44 on May 03, 2013 at 09:46 PM

didnt know what OKPOSO could bring to the table. took 5 years .he did well

Posted by staceyb on May 03, 2013 at 10:06 PM

Okposo really knocked his head back with those two rights. He also scored the winner and got #3 star of the game.

Posted by MeatPlow on May 03, 2013 at 09:20 PM

Great comeback for the Isles, Win Okposo as he landed 2 nice punches. Kudos for Matt for actually receiving the blows and still a gamer. Go isles as i dont like Pittsburg and i got a bottle of fine Whiskey on the line. cheers fellas.

As the fat bug eyed walrus would say player number 21 Okposo with the win On another note you've got to love Brandon Prusts enthusiasm re his comments on's the month of may and the leafs are falling....I thought that was supposed to happen in Autumn

Posted by DARCY T on May 04, 2013 at 07:04 AM

okposo's 1st nhl fight and he landed best punch of the fight but i cant give him the was linesmen had to step in to save him when niskanen was starting to get the upper hand

Posted by TheHunn on May 04, 2013 at 06:16 PM

Not surprised that there was a fight, but was surprised with the identities of the combatants. Okposo did a lot better than I would have guessed he would. He not only got in his shots, but kept his opponent from getting any in until his balance was lost. Definite win for Okposo. It would be really fun if this series heated up.....

Posted by rampart7577 on May 04, 2013 at 11:18 AM

Just because a guy has a bloody nose or a cut does not mean he lost the fight. If one fighter bloodies another fighters nose; then gets his a** pounded; obviously he lost the fight. In this case OK had the best shots and the W. Hopefully the Leafs and the Bs can give us some HW entertainment tonight. Boston will win the series; I just want to see some crazy brawls.

Posted by lb1631 on May 06, 2013 at 10:49 AM

Okposo lands one good shot but Niskanen comes back and does pretty well. This fight is a clear draw.

Posted by shane0mack on May 03, 2013 at 08:52 PM

First shot nearly drops Niskanen, second shot bloodies him like a popped cherry. Okposo definitely gets the win! Let the Okposo-Iginla comparisons recommence!

Posted by warrior13 on May 04, 2013 at 12:03 AM

Oko making a withdraw from the blood bank via niskanens face... Niskanens a pretty tough kid brave effort... Not sure I have seen that much blood since chara v kocci

Posted by Mike Kole on May 04, 2013 at 10:18 AM

The win is mostly about sparking the team. Sure Okposo landed one good shot early, sure he cut Niskanen. But after that Niskanen got up, tied up his opponent, and threw more/better. That's a draw. No player would call the fight a win on the merits of the fight alone. But obviously it sparked the team to turn it around and get a big win. I'm pulling for the Isles, btw. Wins are given out too easily around here.

Posted by CairnsNYI33 on May 05, 2013 at 11:07 AM

KO with the TKO. And it changed the game and might have changed the series. Isles in 6. Lets go Islanders!!!

Posted by Mounty in NC on May 05, 2013 at 12:39 PM

I'll give the win to Okposo simply because he drew blood but both got good shots in....the sad part is that Niskanen gave a good legal hit towards the end of his shift and Okposo, who just started his shift, wanted to come in and fight a tired Niskanen. It would be nice if some of the Pens fighters would drop the gloves in this series if anything but just to slow down some of the somewhat late, but legal hits from the Islanders

Posted by nojjon on May 05, 2013 at 11:32 PM

Niskanen was a surprise, after the first couple of punches he came back and pounded on Okposo. However Okposo gets the win but only barely.

Posted by orangecuse on May 04, 2013 at 11:11 PM

First 2 bombs opened up Niskanen gave a close win for Okposo

Posted by SouthPaw017 on May 05, 2013 at 09:40 AM

Wow... A couple of nice clean shots.... Okposo with the statement....

Posted by weidnerr on May 11, 2013 at 02:16 PM

Kyle did okay with a smaller guy but he still slipped down.....try Engelland or Glass and see how you do Okposo or do you just fight smaller guys?

Posted by AC1026 on May 04, 2013 at 06:34 AM

Blood=Loss Niskanen comes back but its too little to late. Okposo drops him

Posted by kitcarnut on May 04, 2013 at 12:50 AM

Nisky kick his ass, KO isn't as tough as he thinks.

Posted by billy jack on May 04, 2013 at 12:15 PM

if im okposo i fight the guy crosby beat, then i beat him too.

Posted by b_eazzzy on May 05, 2013 at 09:38 PM

Great Jen Tilly W okposo

Posted by jcholmes on May 06, 2013 at 06:14 AM

So the gloves aren't glued to Okposo's hands after all. BTW, Pittsburgh is tough enough to play against without the refs rigging the calls.

Posted by Caps44 on May 06, 2013 at 03:34 AM

win and momentum changer by Okposo; fight worth the effort for it was part of a great hockey game

Posted by bass_n_treble on May 04, 2013 at 02:18 AM

Okposo does solid damage, and ends the fight before he gets hurt himself. This really rallied this troops, and may have been the turning point for the Isles. Defending your second best scorer, getting frustration out, injecting energy into your team, AND being a leader by fighting as a guy who rarely tussles with anyone... this is a great example of when to fight in a game. Huge win by Okposo, on many levels.

Posted by GilliesGhost on May 06, 2013 at 12:36 AM

Okposo took out some frustration here! Nice win!

Posted by bigsul513 on May 04, 2013 at 12:38 AM

Okposo with the bomb and the W

Posted by Great Murray on May 04, 2013 at 11:34 AM

Okposo landed a good punch and Niskanen landed two or three to even it up. Okposo got his team going. Pittsburg needed to come back at them. Cost them the game.

Posted by FDNY20192 on May 05, 2013 at 12:31 PM

There is a God!!! This is playoff hockey!!!! Sticking up for ur teammate then lumping the guy who did up! PRICELESS! Okposo did the right thing and it was his first fight in the NHL! Okposo dropped him right off the bat...and held his own kudos to Niskanen for taking a punch and going back at it. Win Okposo

Posted by kkdowning on May 06, 2013 at 09:08 AM

Okposo with the clear win -- slip at the end notwithstanding

Posted by trollio on May 03, 2013 at 08:40 PM

okposo with 2 good shots, win okposo.give niskanen credit he took 2 good rights

Posted by Diablo69 on May 05, 2013 at 09:10 PM

Very good scrap consedering those 2 guys. Oktopuss with an early start and a very good 1 too... Niskanen with a comebavck at the end... he showed thoughness to keep going. Overall... Win Oktoposo in a close 1.

Posted by dsm131 on May 04, 2013 at 10:59 AM

The only reason Okposo goes down at all is because this was at the end of a shift and he was already winded. Niskanen punches Okposo in the back maybe once in the head. Not saying the hit was super dirty, but Moulson was bleeding in the mouth afterwards, good to see teammates sticking up for each other. Okie wins the fight and then some.

A Minnesotan war! Awesome!

Posted by NYIslanders587 on May 29, 2013 at 05:39 AM

Win to Opo. Niskanen pulled it together at the very end but his punches hit the shoulder pads.

Posted by chad420 on May 04, 2013 at 11:47 AM

win Doc Oc

Posted by the_bro on May 05, 2013 at 11:09 PM

Intense scrap

Posted by Orr Fourever on May 04, 2013 at 08:15 AM

Win for Kyle. If the Islanders upset the mighty Penguins, this fight is where it started. Kyle ain't Clark Gillies but hey it was a good fight. @ Custombreaks Sharks win game 2.

Posted by dustyknuckles on May 04, 2013 at 09:45 PM

Good bout... Okposo with a few bombs Niskanen came on a little to late.. Win Okposo with a bloody victory....

Posted by JaCort16 on May 04, 2013 at 06:59 PM

Honestly a good tilt, okposo with more damage by the cut but Niskanen puts him down, puts down a guy who is bigger than him. I call it a draw.

Posted by shortfatguy on May 11, 2013 at 11:35 PM

Good open ice hit by Niskanen, Okpusso landed a couple of good shots in the beginning then laid down on the ice so the refs would stop the fight once Nisky started to pound on him.

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on May 05, 2013 at 01:55 AM

Okposo did some serious damage to Niskanens face. Very good scrap.

Posted by Jordybats99 on February 06, 2016 at 11:35 AM

Okposo was my early winner. But Matt Niskanen Came back at the end for the edge.

Posted by NyHockeyGoon on May 06, 2013 at 11:19 AM

Niskanen took 2 thunderous blows that split him open but didn't even shake him up and he started beating Okposo into the ground when the refs broke it up.

Posted by srehm1 on May 04, 2013 at 10:23 AM

Okposo with a couple of good punches to earn the W. Niskanen was cut pretty good.

Posted by TorqueLugnut on May 04, 2013 at 02:29 AM

I don't know how people can think Niskanen didn't win this. Okposo landed an amazing hit, but Niskanen stood up immediately after and took him back down to the ice. One good hit doesn't take him down, and he retaliates with a couple nice shots. It was close, but Niskanen definitely came out on top.

Posted by PA GI Joe on May 03, 2013 at 08:34 PM

KO with the win. Kudos to MN for going with a broader and tougher guy, as well as not quitting and fighting back until KO lost his balance. Only an average fight, but done well.

Posted by rangerfan410 on May 04, 2013 at 01:02 AM

Now I understand why Okposo never seetled things w/ Phanneuf. I agree he won, but Niskanen dropped him as well. For a guy as big as he is I expected much more.

Posted by The Mad House on May 04, 2013 at 11:19 AM

Okposo sees the hit by Niskanen, and doesn't go after him until he sees that Moulson is shaken up. Great job of standing up for a teammate there. Also, have to admire the helmets being thrown aside. Neither guy fights a lot but this was a good scrap. Okposo early with some nice rights, and Niskanen late in a comeback attempt, Okposo with the W.

Posted by RedWings=Trash on May 04, 2013 at 03:45 AM

Okposo landed a lot of shots at the beginning of the fight - but by the time it was stopped, Niskanen was pounding him over the top of the head. Giving this one to Okposo is a mistake. Look at the last 6 punches, 5 of them thrown by Niskanen - this is a TKO, Okposo hits a knee. Great fight

Posted by plp1676 on May 03, 2013 at 09:17 PM

You get cut that bad u lose!

Posted by shawn46 on May 04, 2013 at 07:23 PM

So you decide to jump a guy Sid beat up after a clean hit that Moulson gimped up on for a moment.... Real he man... next time find Engelland.. then we"ll talk about what a tough guy you are.

Posted by King of Goons on May 04, 2013 at 02:13 AM

Congratulations Matt Niskanen. You just got your face rearranged by a guy with ZERO career fights. This fight was a turning point in the game and maybe in the series, so a well timed fight for Okposo and kudos to him for beating the tar out of Niskanen for taking a run at one of the Islanders best players. Pens fans must be crapping their pants right now with their team going back to Long Island with that discombobulated circus clown Fleury in net. Methinks Tomas Vokun is already beginning his stretching exercises. Inspirational win by Okposo and the Islanders.

Posted by brnklly36 on May 04, 2013 at 12:46 AM

Okposo did some damage, but niskanen ended the fight. Slight edge to #2.

Posted by peteybrown on May 03, 2013 at 10:54 PM

Posted by Bouli on May 03, 2013 at 09:18 PM

Meh. Win Okposo, but not as lop-sided as I thought it might be. Okposo should be glad it wasn't Engelland that made that hit. That would have seen a different ending! LOL
