they punch like little kitty cats

Posted by petiepab1 on November 30, 2011 at 01:17 PM

Rock em sock em robots style. heads down and punching like madmen. nothing really landed for either, but I was glad Kassian didnt blast him w/ a left hook when Martin had his hand up. Curious about that hand up thing What was with that BI%$^ Neiderreiter???? 6'2" 205 and hes jumping off the ice to hit a guy who's 5'5" 175? 9" taller and 30lbs heavier and he pulls that crap? Its a head shot when hes on his feet, what is it when he jumps a few inches into the air. DB move.

kinda weak actually....looked like 12 year olds. matt kassian gets the call and shows up with a shield? ftw? buffalo really are a bunch of tarts.

Posted by jlmcgui on December 03, 2011 at 03:49 PM

What was the "stop sign" Martin threw up there? Draw, both threw many punches ... would love to see Gerbe and Nido go at it ...

Posted by fernben8 on November 29, 2011 at 09:42 PM

Good intentions in giving the toe-to-toe a go. I feel they had their head down too much (and too long), you can't hit what you can't see. Decent attempt but it just seemed to lack something... Gave it a 5.

Posted by koolpunch on November 30, 2011 at 09:34 PM

I'm pretty sure Martin quit only because he had nothing to hang onto. A grip on the opponent is essential & don't blame him for protecting the jaw...

Posted by Reggie Fleming on November 30, 2011 at 12:02 AM

Lotta pitty pats....nice effort by the Sabres next supa star!

Posted by MJA on November 30, 2011 at 11:40 AM

I gave it a 5. I appreciate the enthusiasm but not alot of quality contact. Credit to Martin for letting up after Kassian's jersey was over his head...10 years ago, that would have been a beating at that point.

Posted by Behn Wilson on November 30, 2011 at 09:23 PM

One of the young-pup, Sabre ''call-ups'' slash ''re-enforcements''... responds, honourably, to someone taking a run at a team mate. Speaking of which, great hit, but Dude... did you really have to jump to hit a guy, who's barley, four feet tall? Good anger, and a decent showing by both guys, but the real winner, in this case, is Buffalo's team morale. Still, if he's going to play this role for the Sabres... unless there's some injury related reason for it... Kassian should have left his visor in the minors.

Posted by staceyb on November 30, 2011 at 05:42 AM

Good NHL start for Kassian as he could have announced for mayor of Buffalo given the crowd reaction. The bout was a draw though MM's punches were deflecting off Kassian's receding hairline while Kassian was hitting helmet.

Posted by sedinfan on November 29, 2011 at 11:06 PM

Lots of punches, but it looked like most were off Martin's helmet or Kassian's bald spot. Have trouble seeing an average of 7.9, not a classic by any means.

Posted by Kordic64 on November 30, 2011 at 12:54 AM

Love the attempt @ toe-to-toe, but fell short of being a ten beller. No clear winner here. Draw

Posted by The DZA on November 30, 2011 at 10:40 AM

Kassian does a great Rob Ray impersonation. Speaking of which, why didnt he get a game misconduct for having his jersey removed?

Posted by DARCY T on November 30, 2011 at 07:00 AM

both threw many many aimless punches and many of them came nowhere close to their faces.entertaining fight though.draw and 7...

Posted by rocky 1 on November 30, 2011 at 01:21 AM

Good tilt and a draw!

Posted by shawn46 on November 30, 2011 at 10:40 AM

HA! This looked like every schoolyard fight and 75% of every "toughman" brawl I have ever witnessed... Head down and doggie paddle paw drag.. While it will wear you out and put some nuggies on your head (if you lost the helmet) it wont do much damage.. except to the jersey... Entertaining one armed swimmers brawl!

Posted by GreatMurray on December 03, 2011 at 04:02 PM

I don't know why they fought by I liked the effort. Toe to toe throwing high hard ones. Good job men. Looked to me like they both landed a couple of good ones. Draw.

Posted by mudman55 on November 30, 2011 at 07:45 AM

I strongly doubt either guys landed a punch, but it was still fun to watch. Had to give it a draw.

Posted by eleketro on November 30, 2011 at 02:32 AM

good ol slugfest, hard to pick a winner. had to go with a draw. alot of helmet hits

Posted by Jordybats99 on December 16, 2016 at 09:38 PM

Good Draw.

Posted by Leafs2006 on November 29, 2011 at 09:31 PM

Good middleweight clash, I'll call it a draw, both threw plenty.......again, good tilt. Sabrehatred, you mad bro?

Posted by bruins rule on November 30, 2011 at 07:53 AM

gave this one a draw.

Posted by jd16nt on November 29, 2011 at 10:34 PM

great fight!! very close!!

Posted by boxerlavean5 on November 30, 2011 at 02:58 PM

Not a bad fight. 6 and draw

Posted by hal29 on November 30, 2011 at 03:29 AM

Martin with the win. Kassian huh? He is suppose to be a tough guy or a comparison to Lucic but yet he wears a shield. Still stuck in junior mode. Again was Kassian punches what the hell was punching pillows. Those were little slap punches. Win for Martin but definitely not a 8. I gave it a 6. Lots of pillow punches but better ones from Martin. If that is what Buffalo brought up to take on Lucic, well still not good enough. I agree with you Sedinfan, the rating is way off. Reggie I wouldn't go as far as calling Kassian a superstar or future superstar. I think he will be a bust. He was a tough guy in juniors not sure why there was no tie down or why he was wearing a visor.

Posted by Lucic_Power on November 29, 2011 at 11:15 PM

Martin

Posted by bostonrs555 on November 29, 2011 at 09:53 PM

Another clown for the Buffalo Circus. Is there a Sabre that doesn't wear a freaking visor, other than Lindy Ruff and the trainer?

Posted by joedog on November 29, 2011 at 09:45 PM

Martin scrappin the visor kid Kassian. They fought in Jr Martin winning then to. Lose the visor Martin Pops him to help him loose it, no tie down also win Martin

Posted by gongermuskegon on November 29, 2011 at 08:55 PM

Holy rock'em sock'em keep your head down and throw robots. I don't know if i've seen that style employed since Mike vernon was dodging blocker blows from patrick the statue of liberty siv roy. Martin and a well earned 7

Posted by FightsOfHockey on November 29, 2011 at 08:35 PM

good tilt martin landed better tho

Posted by greg122122 on November 30, 2011 at 11:53 AM

Matt smacks around another faceshield tough guy

Posted by shane0mack on November 30, 2011 at 12:57 AM

Gotta love a head down, toe-to-toe, throw 'em till the cows come home, punch-for-punch fight, even if most of the punches don't land. Everything about that fight says draw except for the fact that the two were talking for a bit before dropping the gloves and Kassian still didn't drop the visor. I'm not concerned about Martin ending the fight because once the jersey came off, Martin would have been at a clear disadvantage. And I hope that midget gets a suspension for that spear to Nieder's nads at 1:12.

Posted by Spazemunky on November 30, 2011 at 12:46 AM

Martin wasn't keen on the sweaterless fighting and called an end to it.

Posted by prokill00 on December 03, 2011 at 08:50 PM

great fight, I was at this game. I thought the two were pretty even. Martin had the upper hand in my opinion. He landed more punches and did not stop swinging, even took Kassian's helmet off. I know a lot of the punches were landed on the tops of their head I'd rather be punching the dudes skull than his helmet. Martin wins, Kassian would have probably came back if the ref's hadn't broken it up

Posted by kbelanger33nyi on November 30, 2011 at 04:09 PM

Didnt realize so many homers in Buffalo(i guess thats what happens when you cant go outside due to 28 inhces of snow on the ground-u just stay in and vote)...no way kassie won that fight

Posted by cppalermo on December 07, 2011 at 04:45 PM

Martin wanted it and he got it.....Kassian landed more shots. Plus what was up with Martin holding his hand up his face??

Posted by scorp1on on December 02, 2011 at 06:45 AM

Martin looks to have tired about 66% of the way through the fight. Slight edge to Kassian for durability.

Posted by cardiffgiant on November 29, 2011 at 09:46 PM

Even match. It looks like nothing connected and no damage was done. I'm giving it to Kassian since Martin appeared to stop the fight and call the refs in at the end because he was either tired or didn't like Kassian getting loose of his jersey.

Posted by vangodard28 on December 01, 2011 at 09:22 PM

That left me wanting more. What was Martin doing at the end there? Was he scared to let Kassian go or what? Have to give the edge to the guy who would have kept chucking 'em.

Posted by anthrojim on December 08, 2011 at 09:52 PM

Give the win to Kassian simple because Martin held up the "don't hit me" hand at the end.

Posted by lb1631 on December 02, 2011 at 07:35 PM

Matt Martin covers up like the little douche that he is. Goring shut the F.... Up you homer

Posted by jnk07899 on November 30, 2011 at 09:54 AM

Kassian making his presence in the Buffalo lineup felt. Pretty even, slight edge Kassian (probably because I'm a Sabres fan). Hope to continue to see more of this physical play from them, especially upon Cody McCormick's return as well as Kaleta.

Posted by JSWJr on November 30, 2011 at 04:50 PM

Pretty mediocre bout. Both threw fast and often, but missed. MM seems to give up at the end.

Posted by tyrone on November 29, 2011 at 10:18 PM

Kassinator with the win. ANYONE who voted otherwise needs to stop smoking crack. Martin waved the white flag at the end. HELLO dumbarses. What are you from Minnesota or what?

Posted by TommyGun29 on November 30, 2011 at 09:11 AM

Martin quit......he loses in my view! Great scrap though and he probably landed more in the exchange.

Posted by stpapa on November 30, 2011 at 06:15 PM

KASSIAN IS MY HERO

Posted by mr hockey on November 29, 2011 at 08:23 PM

i don't think many of those punches landed by either one of those combatants ,but how about that # 25 on the islanders the one who threw the hit ,he jump at the sabres player who was about 2 feet shorter than him already what a puss boy. draw

Posted by closer44 on November 30, 2011 at 10:46 PM

It was like Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots. Did anything in that flurry actually land?

Posted by Big_Fat_Dan on December 03, 2011 at 05:39 AM

Swinging and not much connecting draw.

Posted by kkdowning on November 30, 2011 at 03:55 PM

draw -- that seemed like a 5th grade school yard fight -- close your eyes and swing

Posted by CloweStaubi on November 29, 2011 at 08:26 PM

i struggle to give fights like these a 9 or 10 for the simple fact that both these guys had their head down and threw punches that made no contact whatsoever... this is reminiscent of the jay rosehill/francis lessard fight... anyways, gave it a 6, just cus it "looked" cool... DRAW!!

Posted by raymi2 on November 30, 2011 at 05:16 AM

Not a great fight, i give it a 6!

Posted by pvdrummer2000 on March 10, 2015 at 11:33 PM

Man that was like two draws!

Posted by chad420 on November 30, 2011 at 01:27 PM

draw...good bout

Posted by acdcrocksno1 on December 01, 2011 at 01:53 PM

How anyone can pick a winner in that is beyond me

Posted by FHgrad99 on November 30, 2011 at 11:56 AM

This was fun one to watch. Lots of punches thrown in this fight. Kassian hung in there very well against a pretty tough customer. I can't justify calling this anything but a draw because it was about as even as they come. I gave it an 8.

Posted by dorian on November 30, 2011 at 07:07 AM

Martin wins

Posted by S_Pilotte on November 29, 2011 at 08:10 PM

Decent toe to toe bout, slight edge to Martin

Posted by 29th_Candidate on November 30, 2011 at 11:38 PM

Must be a lot of Buffalo homers in this thread to give this bout to a visored and strapless Kassian. Edge Martin for outlanding Kassian.

Posted by ProdigyTwin on November 30, 2011 at 08:41 AM

Martin gets in a few more clean shots after initiating and challenging Kassian. Slight edge to Martin in this one.

Posted by mike hartman on November 30, 2011 at 09:06 AM

old school hold on and keep throwing them type of fight. Both landed a few, but I gave it to Kassian because Martin gave up at the end.

Posted by T-Wild76 on November 30, 2011 at 02:26 PM

If this fight keeps going Kassian would have hammered him with that free arm. Martin realized this and gave up. edge goes to Zack

Posted by SFVflyers88 on November 30, 2011 at 08:03 PM

putting your hands up in a fights is a puss way out. Martin looked more like Mark Martin a old NASCAR driver.
