Shawn Matthias vs Ben Lovejoy

Spirited to, and fro between two unknown... (to me, at least)... newcomers.

Unfortunately, it was also bereft of any fighting technique known to man.

I'll give it to Lovejoy because (1) he scored his first NHL goal in the second period (2) he was named first star of the game (3) he took a puck in the face for stitches near the end of the game that I'm sure hurt more than this tussle with Matthias (4) he got a nice between periods interview on the Pens telecast.

Not a bad early Christmas present.

Not a bad scrap by two guys who I don't think have ever been in an NHL fight. Most of the big bombs they were throwing missed, but fun to watch just the same.

Matthias threw more but Lovejoy does a half decent job dodging them with his bob and weave defence.

well matthias definitely lands more, but the reverend doesn't seem too worse for the wear when its all said and done. good to see them both lobbing the hamhocks instead of the jersey jabs or the tender cuddles. nice job fellers. matthias and a 6er.

I hope I get a Slap Chop for Christmas. I was able to taste Vince's nuts recently and they were delicious.

Matthias with the edge in s nice scrap. Lots of punches, but a few solid rights by each guy until Lovejoy ands on top of Matthias. Pittsburgh has added grit the last couple years, they used to be the Redwings of the Eastern Conference with few fights and high skill.
