Oilers ’84: Former Oilers forward Pat Hughes says Cup had some adventures after first championship

So many stories and so many years later, Hughes is visiting Edmonton to join his former teammates in this week’s reunion of the 1984 Stanley Cup Champions. Thirty years ago, the Oilers partied famously after winning hockey’s Holy Grail for the first time by defeating the archrival New York Islanders four games to one.

“We dragged that thing to as many places as we could for days afterwards,” said Hughes, now 59. “We went to a lot of different bars and restaurants and the city got an opportunity to handle it and hoist it and drink a celebratory drink out of it as well.”
