Staubitz Hands Tootoo Rare Loss
When staying inside of his weight class, very rarely does Jordin Tootoo lose, at least in a decisive fashion. That wasn’t the case last night. In their second fight this season, Brad Staubitz handed Tootoo his first loss of the year during Thursday’s game between the Predators and Sharks.
The two decided to drop the gloves right off of a second period faceoff. Things were relatively even until a toe-to-toe exchange saw Staubitz connect with a number of unanswered punches while Tootoo came up short with all but one of his. Staubitz continued to lay into Tootoo until the linesmen intervened. Tootoo then skated back to the dressing room with a bloody nose.
Brian McGrattan also got into his second fight this season, and his second in the last two nights, against George Parros in the first period of Ducks–Yotes. The fight wasn’t very action-packed. Neither fighter landed anything of note and the scrap abruptly ended when McGrattan went down to the ice. He skated off favoring his right shoulder, which likely had fight fans immediately thinking back to his injury problems of the past, but he ultimately returned to the game later on.
Wednesday’s games resulted in two fights as well: Steve Ott and Jamie Lundmark tangled after a battle along the boards in Stars–Flames, and Scott Nichol and Mike Brown fell right away in a quick one during Preds-Ducks.
