Wings Take First Game

The Red Wings jumped out for a 1-0 series lead last night.

The highlight of the game had to be Justin Abdelkader‘s absolutely ridiculous goal.

Game two is tonight.  While the back-to-back games are for tv reasons, I think it’s great.  It’s fun to see the Cup just fly out of the gate.  Plus, it’ll be June tomorrow.  Not a hockey month.

Whoops

I forgot to open up the Cup Finals preview yesterday, so that’s live now.  Jamie and I both picked the Pens, so opening that late doesn’t do us any favors.

The rematch is on, but the biggest tragedy is that Eric Godard won’t see one second of ice time and Aaron Downey is wallowing in Grand Rapids.  All the talk by Babcock at how much last year Downey meant to the Red Wings was a load of b-s.  Not even putting Downey on the teams roster this year was just the slap of all slaps to the face.  The man did see 4 games and had a goal and an assist.  Another tragedy in this rematch is Eric Godard.  Here is a guy who steps up and takes on all comers to protect the 2 little fellas.  Like Downey last year, not giving him one playoff game is the biggest punch to the face Godard has taken.  Hockey is the greatest game on Earth, but the teams need to stop with having the gamers go at it all year long, breaking noses, jaws and orbital bones and ending their careers with concussions only to spend the most important time of the season in the rafters.  Of course we will all watch the series but not seeing Aaron Downey do battle with Eric Godard is a Greek tragedy.  Come on all you fans of the gamers.  Where you at now?  Voices for our favorites.
