Sugar and Brash Set Stage at MSG

Brandon Sugden and Donald Brashear dropped the gloves twice in Madison Square Garden last night.  It was Sugden’s first, and possibly only game for the Capitals.  Sugden signed with Washington affiliate Hershey in August.

The first fight was quick, leaving the fans wanting more - and more is exactly what they got.  The second bout was a long one.  Sugden started off strong, but Brash was able to gain control, ending the fight strong with a mix of grappling and punches in a mess of jerseys.

Brashear skated off to cheers, the loudest he’s received at MSG so far.  His hit on Blair Betts is close to being forgiven.

Gretzky resigns

With articles out of Phoenix like Gretzky: End of an error, you know the locals were only interested in keeping the team, not the coach.  With his massive contract, no possible owner was interested in keeping him around either.  Wayne Gretzky‘s resignation was, in a word, appropriate.

I had some fun looking at the photos used with the articles on the major US and Canadian sports sites.

Sugden won the fight. This article doesn’t give him justice. He connected with more solid punches and Brashear’s punches towards the end were a mess of palms getting caught up in the tangled jerseys. This one should go to Sugden.

And the Donald Brashear fan club has officially begun in NYC.  What Betts incident?  Should be exciting in the Atlantic Division this year.  Riley Cote, Daniel Carcillo, Aaron Asham and Lapi throwing in Philly, Brash in NYC,  Eric Godard and Mike Rupp for the Pens and possibly Andrew Peters in Jersey will be fight fans’ wet dreams.  Not to mention a Conference of Georges Laraque, Shawn Thornton, Chris Neil, Todd Fedoruk and Colton Orr.  Gonna be a good year.  If the Caps don’t want Ovechkin to get his head knocked off they better keep Brandon Sugden around simply for throw downs.

The hit on Betts isn’t close to being forgiven, Brashear is still a worthless thug who gets paid millions to take cheap shots and get beat up by a who played for the Rangers AHL affiliate last year, twice in one night.
