Saturday Night’s Moderately OK for Fighting
Lots of games, just a few fights. There shall be only one when it comes to the highlight reel, so we’ll dub Mayers-Tootoo the Highlander Fight of the Night. It was a great bout, and the new Youtube preview on the videos page. It’s also available after the jump.
It was no secret something was going to happen, the Tennessean predicted it today:
In the teams’ last meeting, on Dec. 26, Predators forward Jordin Tootoo delivered a number of big third-period hits. He was twice called for charging, once on an icing touch-up, leading Blues goalie Manny Legace to refer to Tootoo as a “donkey.’‘
Tootoo said Friday he hopes the Blues focus more on him than they do on winning.
“I think it’s a positive for our team,’’ Tootoo said. “It takes a lot of their players off their games and they’re focusing more on me, which is great because I’m a fourth-line player and energy player.
“I can take a lot of heat and it makes me play that much harder. They can beak all they want to me, but to me it’s a positive, knowing I got them off their game.’‘
Tootoo said he looks forward to emotional contests.
“I know I’ll probably play a few extra minutes, hopefully creating some penalties,’’ he said. “I’ll definitely take a punch to the head for the team. We’ve got a very strong power play and I’ll sacrifice my body for whatever it takes.
“But at the same time, I’m going to protect myself and my teammates, so whatever happens happens. If the gloves come flying off, so be it.’‘
Christy took some screengrabs of the Bruise Brothers (Kocur, Probert) from Stevie Y night in Detroit.

From Probert living large:
They were reunited at Tuesday’s ceremony, later sitting together behind the penalty boxes to watch the Wings beat Anaheim 2-1.
“A friend of mine had two seats behind the penalty box, so we thought it would be a great idea to sit there in the padded seats for a change,” Probert said. “We had our usual view of the game, only the seats were much more comfortable.
Site note: With the Florida Seals folding, we’ll be updating our schedule as necessary until a revised SPHL schedule is released.
