Hawks-Nucks Throwdown Caps Busy Weekend

This past weekend featured a little bit of everything: heavyweight tilts, multi-fight games, and even a line brawl. In all, the games during the last two days resulted in 17 total fights, and the number of games that featured at least one fight has been bumped up to 521, now the highest mark in this decade.

Saturday was highlighted by a four-fight contest between the Isles and Flyers. Doug Weight went after Darroll Powe for a hit on Tim Jackman in the opening minutes of the game and the Isles quickly shot out to an early lead. Three fights then broke out in the second period. Daniel Carcillo tangled with Nate Thompson six minutes into the frame. They were followed by Joel Rechlicz and Riley Cote, who exchanged punches in a long bout. Arron Asham dropped Jackman with a right hand a few minutes after that.

In addition, Colton Orr and Eric Godard dropped the gloves for the fourth time this season in an afternoon clash between the Rangers and Pens and Milan Lucic won a decision from Phil Oreskovic in Bruins-Leafs.

Sunday’s main attraction was a line brawl during last night’s Canucks-Blackhawks game. In the third period, Dustin Byfuglien ran into Vancouver goaltender Roberto Luongo and gave him a shot to the mask with his stick. This prompted an immediate gathering between the players. Order was temporarily restored and Byfuglien was escorted to the penalty box, only to have chaos erupt moments later.

Ben Eager and Kevin Bieksa opted to dance and the two went at it in a wild fight. Also paired off were Duncan Keith and Alexandre Burrows, who mostly grappled in close quarters while Burrows was caught with a hand full of Keith’s hair on more than one occasion.

Elsewhere, Carcillo and Steve Montador had a go in Bruins-Flyers. It was the second fight for each player in the last 24 hours. Andrew Ference going up against Scott Hartnell was the other fight in that game. Mike Brown and Ian Laperriere also decided to shed the mitts during Avs-Ducks in another notable bout.

The Dan Line consisting of Flyers forwards Scott Daniels, Dan Kordic and Dan Laquoix will never be forgotten.  But surpassing them this year in throwing their Broad Street Bullyness around is a brand new triple threat of Riley Cote, Dan Carcillo and Aaron Asham.  Most teams have a one punch.  Some teams have a one-two punch.  The Flyers have a beautiful one-two-three punch.  Who can beat them?  NOBODY!  Now where is Scott Parker?  Bring back Parker!  Bring back Parker!  Bring back Parker!

All Canucks fans should be fucking embarrassed.  If my team picked up pieces of shit like Burrows and O’brien I would quit watching until they were gone.  Bieksa is also a real class act.  Eager should have kept punching that faget when he had him on the ice.  If those morons had half a brain they would have went after Byfuglien right off the bat.

The Flyers aren’t even as tough a team as Anaheim or Calgary if you run them down player by player.  Get over yourselves homers.  Any team with Gagne, Hartnell, Briere, Carter, and Lupul isn’t a tough team. Richards is the toughest of the lot (excluding Carcillo) and their best all around player he just isn’t a regular scrapper.  I respect Carcillo and Asham but Cote? He is a tool. Just because you are willing too go doesn’t make you a good fighter.  Stop living in the past this isn’t the broad street bullies.

Alex Burroughs is a wuss. Hair pulling? What’s next… scratching his eyes out like a school girl? There are certain rules of honor in hockey fights… pulling hair isn’t one of them.

CaSucks’ post is right. If the ‘Nucks had any sack, they would have mugged Byfuglien immediately after his shot on Luongo.

Nice left be Ben Eager!

As to the Carcillo fight, he really must have punched hard because he hurt his finger.  I heard that he wasn’t on the Flyers lineup for the Bruins game.  http://www.chicshockey.com

Hockeychic - it was cote not carcillo that hurt his hand…carcillo was in the line up for the bruins game and also fought…

and #3 living in the past- the dan line was not the broad street bully era as I hope you are aware, if not you are really something…also,in a straight up line brawl, 4th line vs 4th line, the flyers fourth line changes around but it is normally asham powe and cote with cote getting the least minutes… in the event asham carcillo and cote are all out on the ice at the same time, we’d have to go size on D so i guess Alberts and Coburn…i say we win 3 out of the 5 fights going on and depending on if cote can get a draw out of a heavy or not 2-1-2 is the likeliest outcome regardless of the team or opponents.
