Garrett Burnett’s Status

About a week ago rumors started to appear about Garrett Burnett, that he was hospitalized, and how that came to happen.  Rumors from the Chiefs forum were that he was shot, and they were repeated on the forums here, until it was cleared up a couple of days later: Garrett Burnett was not shot.

TSN and 24 Hours Vancouver both reported on Garrett’s condition a few days after the rumors rose and fell.

The facts that I’ve confirmed: Garrett was with a friend, and his friend’s girlfriend at a nightclub.  There was a dispute between them and another group and both were asked to leave.  The other group was already outside when Garrett and his friends left and that’s when he was assaulted.

The details of what exactly what transpired are not public at the moment as the police continue their investigation.

Garrett has been in a coma since the incident, and is currently on life support.

His family appreciates all your best wishes and prayers during this time.

I will update on his condition as any information is made available.

Garrett Burnett Update

I thought I'd let everyone know Garrett is doing well and thanks everyone for their thoughts and wishes. He's been doing daily therapy and progressing nicely. They're still not putting out a timetable on his return, but rather just focusing on the progress. Last week Chiefs execs Pierre Rochefort and Daniel Larocque along with teammates Steve Bosse and Patrick Deraspe went to visit Garrett and I'm told it definitely helped lift spirits. If you'd like to send your best wishes……

Burnett's Condition Improving

Good news from the Burnett family: Garrett Burnett is no longer in a coma and has been taken off life support as of Jan 16. Burnett is now medically stable and is able to eat and speak. He does need some assistance walking at the moment, and is still recovering from various other injuries. There is no time table for a full recovery. Burnett was involved in an altercation when leaving a nightclub Dec 26. He was attacked while being escorted out of the club and was restrained at the time. There was……

Let us all keep Garrett and his family in our thoughts and prayers in what must be the toughest of times for them. I’ll be praying that he makes a full recovery and that those involved in the attack are brought to justice by the police.

Prayers and best wishes for the complete recovery of an especially nice guy. We Phantoms fans join everyone else in sending support to one of our own. He played here during our first Calder Cup year, and those of us who’ve been fans since then recall his time here fondly. He left it all on the ice on every shift, and was friendly and down-to-earth off the ice.

As enthusiastically as we cheered Garrett as a player, it pales in comparison to how much we’re supporting him in this current battle. God grant that we see positive news about his recovery, and soon.

yah…i will second the thought above…i hope garrett makes a full recovery and someday plays in the LNAH or even the NHL again…he was always willing to protect his teamates and friends while doing his job and im pretty sure thats what he was tryin to do when he was jumped and beatdown by sum thugs in vancouver on Dec 26, 2006 while celebrating christmas with friends. Garrett hockey fans around the globe wish u the best!

I first watched Garrett Burnett when he played for the Kentucky Thoroughblades (AHL) and read all of the columns that said that he would never play in the NHL.  Guess what…he beat the odds, and I am sure that he will use the same determination to get through this ordeal.  My thoughts and prayers go out to him, his family, and to the law enforcement officials to find the thugs who did this to him and bring them to justice.

I understand that Garrett is very tough and prob wasnt beat up by just one person but can we please stop with these comments about wondering how many people or what hit him.  All we need to be concerned with is sending our prayers and thoughts towards him and his family.  As soon as any other information is availible it will be posted asap.  thanks.

I know it’s not important how many people beat him up but isn’t it sickening that someone ( or several people) can take a bar fight so far as to put a guy on life support.  Whatever happened to one-on-one the guy gets knocked down and it’s over.

Get well soon Garrett.

I just read in one of the forums that it was posted on the St Jean website that Garrett came out of the coma and is breathing without the assistance of a machine.  This is great news if it is accurate.  Can anyone confirm this?  Keep getting better Garrett!

Anaheim Ducks fans here in California are praying for Garrett. His time here was much appreciated, and missed right now. We could use him with the team this year, as it is our best shot at the Stanley Cup and it would be great if he could share this season with us. I truly hope better days are coming for you Garrett. I look forward to seeing you in an NHL lineup again, you are deserving of it. God bless you.
