Cup Rematch Coming?

With the Red Wings winning in OT last night and taking a 2-0 lead in the series against the Blackhawks, we’ve moved one step closer to a Stanley Cup Finals rematch between the Wings and the Pens.  The NHL can’t be upset with that, although a Chicago comeback would top off the Second City market revival nicely.

Forbes has declared the Blackhawks the greatest sports-business turnaround ever, and it’s hard to disagree.

Win your own fight

millitary.com’s fitness blog has an entry and video related to hockey fights: Every fight in a hockey game is a close quarters combat scenario.  It uses the in-close concept of a hockey fight for tips to handling an anywhere-fight.  We commonly post about players in hockey using outside concepts to help them win fights on-ice, so I thought it’d be interesting to link up the flip-side.

A return

ESPN’s Sports Guy, Bill Simmons, professes his renewed love for the NHL.  It should come as no surprise when his reasons include the Bruins winning and fighting numbers ticking upwards.

A night off

No NHL tonight, but there is a Memorial Cup game, Rimouski at Drummondville.  It’s on Sportsnet in Canada and the NHL Network in the States.

Let’s see a rematch of last year, but the biggest tragedy of that possible rematch is that Eric Godard won’t see one second of ice time and Aaron Downey is wallowing in Grand Rapids.  All the talk by Babcock at how much last year Downey meant to the Red Wings was a load of b-s.  Not even putting Downey on the teams roster this year was just the slap of all slaps to the face.  The man did see 4 games and had a goal and an assist.  Another tragedy is Eric Godard.  Here is a guy who steps up and takes on all comers to protect the 2 little fellas.  Like Downey last year, not giving him one playoff game is the biggest punch to the face Godard has taken.  Hockey is the greatest game on Earth, but the teams need to stop with having the gamers go at it all year long, breaking noses and orbital bones only to spend the most important time of the season in the rafters.  Come on all you fans of the gamers.  Where you at now?

I second that.

This is what the NHL has been wanting since the beginning of the playoffs. The writing’s been on the wall. Pens gettings most of the power plays and 5 on 3’s, the refs have all gone blind when the Pens play another team. And the Red Wings same thing. I have no intention of watching the finals. This was predetermined finals before the playoffs even started. The NHL sucks right now and probably will until Bettman is gone. Someone post here who wins. Thanks.

It’s not Babcock’s fault Downey isn’t in the lineup.  When Downey was called up he said he loves dressing an enforcer.  It’s the GM’s fault.
