Chris Simon Signs in Russia

Chris Simon, splitting 2007-08 between the Islanders and Wild after another long suspension last season, has signed with Vitiaz Chehov in Russia.

From the non-edited Google translation:

6-year old forward Chris Simon, one of the best tafgaev NHL, signed a one-contract with the “Knight”, said club general manager Alexei Zhamnov Moscow correspondent “SE” Alexander Shapiro. Negotiations with Simon Chekhov club led to a half months, but the agreement was signed only yesterday when legionnaire arrived in Russia together with his agent.

It should be noted that sezone-2002/03 Simon stood for “Chicago” along with Zhamnovym, and a total newcomer “Vityaz” held in 857 NHL games: 322 (154 +168) points, 2015 minutes of free time.

It’s a shame to lose Simon to a Russian league when he still has contributions to make to the NHL.  He has had his problelms, for sure, but the man can still play and there are enough teams in the league lacking noticable grit that could use a guy his size.  Under the right coaching he could still contribute.  I wish him the best if this is a personal decision on his part, I only hope that he is not feeling forced to leave North America in order to continue a hockey career.  Somebody in the NHL should have the guts to employ him.

Chris Simon is a marked man in the National Hockey League. Bad boys earn the mark, but star players who make the same mistakes are clearly playing by a different set of rules.  I think this is a clear message from Chris Simon that Colin Campbell can kiss his a**

He should sue the NHL based on discrimination, and I hope he does.

You’ll always be a Ranger, Mr. Simon. Will never forget your’s and Matt’s contributions to the club. Hope to see you back in the NHL and back on the Rangers. If you had been a Ranger in 2008 they would be in the Finals.

Agree 100% with ellen form ottawa.  Simon was always one of my favorites…one of the few remaining from the “good ole days”.
