Brad May, the Other Power Play

The classic Red Wings-Blackhawks rivalry actually saw a fight. The fighting major, a rare occurrence in Detroit nowadays, happened thanks to Brad May, who signed yesterday.

May’s opponent was the willing Czech Radek Smolenak.  May did well against the young Hawk and no one could have been happier than Mickey Redmond.  Hopefully there will be more clips posted with his voice on them.

Hit ‘em, drop ‘em

A couple of fights were spawned from big hits.  Zenon Konopka checked Matt Halischuk hard, almost from behind.  Bryce Salvador then quickly went over to Konpoka in response.  In Buffalo Patrick Kaleta laid out Petr PruchaMartin Hanzal stepped up for the Coyotes and received a PIMs package worthy of Dave Schultz for his efforts.

Another size mismatch

Similar to last night, we have another match-up with a big size disparity.  Derek Dorsett took on Frazer McLaren.  Unlike the other night, both players are experienced with their gloves off.  Dorsett took advantage of McLaren being tied up in his jersey as long as he could, but eventually the big man got his arm free to land some good shots of his own.  The fight was shortly after Ryane Clowe handled Michael Blunden easily.

Hey Pat Quin! Go **** yourself you outdated asshole. Call a guy out over an accident when you got JF Jerkoff running around laying cheap shots on a nightly basis. You are a joke. Just like the last two NHL teams you have coached.

Looks like Brian McGrattan got the medical clearance to start throwing punches again.  The Flames need to get him up in there since they let Andre Roy go and are still letting their captain be their grunt as well.  Iginla has the guts to throw but he should leave that job to they guys who do it well.

Hey superdouche..
What’re you Pat Quinn’s ex-wife or something?
Pat Quinn called out Iginla? ummm no.
And I think J.F. Jacques is a pretty prime example of a clean hitter. He lays hits every single shift and has yet to injure anyone with a stick in the skates, hit from behind, etc.
In 64 shifts and roughly 45 minutes of play he has one single penalty. Iggy’s got 6 minutes (not including his 5 for fighting tonight) in 4 games.
If I was heading into the boards to pick up a loose puck I think I would much rather have JFJ than Iggy Pop on my heels.
And I bet you would cry if you met Pat Quinn in a dark alley with that stare of his.

Oops. I just saw the post-game from Quinn. Interesting comments but I think he more Po’d at his team.
That said I’m sure Iggy feels pretty crappy today for the accident.

Pat Quinn called out Iginla? ummm yes. This is the guy who’s career was defined by the flying elbow he used to KO Bobby Orr. I don’t recall his being hit over the head with a stick. I do remember his getting his ass kicked by half the Bruins team and touching off one of the biggest brawls of that era, which is still part of the NHL All-time playoff records. Oilfan, careful getting that foot out of your mouth.

Foot out of my mouth because I hadn’t hear ALL of the post game comment and opened my yapper prior to seeing/hearing the interview.
Wow. You stated something about Quinn that almost everybody knows, you’re a great historian. And I think your telling of the line brawl sums up pretty much what Quinn’s trying to say hmm?
And by the way, Bobby never missed a shift. Sheldon Souray is still trying to figure out what position he played and has a raw steak on his forehead.
P.S.- I don’t believe that Quinn used an elbow. Dion Phaneuf makes the same hit unpenalized 2-3 times a game.

I have seen the Oilers play three times this year and in two of those games Jacques ran someone from behind. Giordano and Kronwall both took cheap shots. Quinn ices a team with Steve Macintyre on the roster so he should shut the fuck up and teach that fist monkey how to skate instead of deflecting the blame from his weak ass teams as he has always done. Iginla gave the refs the night off from Quinn tirades.  Tom Renney needs to take over that shit stat
